This was one of those knives that just seemed to make its-self... I started Thursday morning in the shop with my 7yo son and we came up with an idea... It was done and assembled by Saturday evening. Only need a sheath and to be sharpened.

I am still debating on what type of sheath to make, but am currently leaning toward horizontal, 1 o'clock carry and using a stud/loop for retention.

Thoughts, critiques, ideas and input are all welcome. :)

All it takes is some inspiration and some patience... :)

The one pic I don't have yet is showing my makers mark on the spine. I don't like etching the face of the damascus, seems to take away from the overall appearance.

Beautiful work neighbor! Only have a glass kiln available to me, and that 5 miles away. Some family members are playing with silver clay in the beast right now.

Have you laid eyes on, or attempted for yourself any watered steel by twisting differently shaded steels together?

Just something to try if you start twiddling the brain for something to do, Play with the pattern intentionally.

Keep it up in either case, need more kids being raised with work ethics from the start anyhow.

Never heard of watered steel... and I dont make my own damascus. This is random pattern Alabama Damascus from Brad Vice.

I do have a forge "somewhat" available to me, at a friend's house, but our schedules never match, so we haven't gotten to do any work together yet.

I wouldn't have used the ghost jade as the guard since I'm afraid it will chip or break.

Using it sandwiched as a large spacer between a tougher guard material and the wood would have made for a pretty accent.

nostalgia

reminds me of a buck vanguard which i mean as a compliment as it was the very first sheath knife i bought with my very first paycheck from my very first job and still have to this day almost 20 years later

Nice work there Brad. I really like the overall shape and lines of it. Like HSO, I would worry a bit about the ghost jade, but it does make for a good looking guard. You are continuing to get better and better.

Man I need to figure out how to get more time in the day, so I can get back to my feeble attempts at making knives. I am only going to get better if I actually practice.

I take no offense to the comments about the jade on the guard. I am a little curious how it will do, myself.
