I saw Bill Clinton on Larry Kng live last night, and as much as I cant stand many of
Bill's political views, I cant help but enjoy listening to him speak. Bill is just so well spoken and so well liked by many Americans that I believe many people will be voting for him in 2008 even though Hllary is the one running. Even on Lary King Bill repeatedly stated that Hillary was running for president, not him, however in the public view, that may get lost when people envision Bill in the White House again.

Knowing what I know about Bill and his anti gun attitude, not to mention his wife who IMO has an even worse view of guns, it really upsets me that I think deep down I like him as a person and enjoy hearing him speak, even after all his screw ups and lies in office :(

I choke back vomit every time I hear him speak, but that's just me.

I get an overwhelming urge to smack him in the back of the head with a half-filled Mountian Dew bottle every time I see him on TV (obscure joke between my wife and me-- belief that stupidity should be pointed out with a swift pop in the back of the head with a 1/2 full Mountain Dew bottle.)

How can you be a gun owner AND like the man who passed the 94 AWB???

I won't even get into his other policies.

But you are correct... many will vote for Billery to get a package deal. His amazing popularity can only be explained via Faustian pacts with the devil, IMO....

I hear ya. The republicans were lucky that the president is limited to 2 terms or else he'd still be in office.

Well, I think the only pact they have right now is; "No more horsing around with the interns until after I'm in the whitehouse again...and I mean it this time Bill".

You can like someone that you disagree with. My best friend is very different from me and we disagree on a great many things but he is my friend.

I like Clinton. He has a personality and he is a character. But I do disagree with him politically.

I deeply despise both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush as politicians. Both of them, however, also seem like guys with whom_if they hadn't become POTUS_I'd enjoy beer drinking and generalized revelry. I don't require ideological purity from my friends, I have many with whom I vehemently disagree on various things.

You'd be surprised how many gun owners on this site just LOVE Ronald Reagan, who signed a lot of legislation that was just as bad in California, and who lobbied hard for the AWB after he left office.

I haven't liked a president since Carter, and I disagreed with a lot of what he did.

True. People also forget he pushed the illegal immigrant amesty in the 80's as well.

Regarding Clinton-- I still utterly dislike him. I never even understood his charismatic appeal. I personally believe it all started when celebrities like REM jumped so strongly on his bandwagon-- and you have to remember, he originally ran against a man with the personality of a grapefruit.

or a man with a good haircut

or a man I'd ever trust around my daughters or even my family pet.

The only difference between Bill and every other president since Kennedy is that Bill was caught.

I could care less if he gets a knob polishing from another woman; that's between him, his wife, and his mistress.

Bill Clinton was able to reduce the deficit & provide a surplus that kept our Dollar strong against foreign currencies. The deficit's created by GW #1 and GW #2 have measurably harmed every american. our dollar is worth $.50 to the British pound and $.75 cents to the Euro. Interest rates will surely go up inthe future as foreigners who finance our debt will want more return on their investment. Also the main reason Gasoline hes risen and is near $3.00 a gallon is because of the devaluation of the dollar. middle easterners would rather have euro's today than develuating dollars. Finally with Corn being used for fuel and driving up the price of that commodity you can expect everything to be more expensive over the summer. The higher corn prices effect the feed market and beef is already higher due to this Phenomenon. So whatever you think of him personally, he is a good orator, he was a better steward of the country than our current president.

The real reason we invaded Iraq? Saddam, if you remember, put out an assination contract on GW #1 after the first war. The son avenger. Why GW #2 had to be ellected? Ronald Reagen, signed in legislation that would make public information 20 years after a President left office. GW #1 After runnuig the OSS, CIA and National Security before becomming VP and President has things to hide. GW #2 made sure these would not see the light of day until his father is gone and can't be held accountable. Clinton in order to secure the privacy of the oval office kept it a secret too.

I won't get into the debate over economics of the 90's but I wanted to point out one thing:

One of the largest boons for creating a surplus was the Roth IRA act. This allowed persons to convert their tradional IRA to a Roth IRA.

Traditional IRAs are tax-deferred accounts. This means that the investments grow without having to pay taxes as you go. However, upon drawing out monies, you must pay the taxes. These IRA's are funded with pre-tax dollars-- meaning you can deduct the contributions from your income taxable income.

Roth IRA's, on the other hand, are accounts where they are funded with post-tax dollars. These dollars have already been taxed, and grow tax-FREE in the vehicle. Upon taking disbursements, you are not required to pay taxes on the money.

During the period of time where people were allowed to convert Traditional IRA's to Roth IRA's, people had to pay the owed deferred taxes before the account could be converted. This resulted in a huge tax pool of monies--- especially considering the Dot-Com boom that was going on.

Sure, I LOVE Roth IRAs, but I have no illusions. The Roth IRA effectively was used as a tool to ROB the future of tax revenue. The Clinton Administration was able to pull tax dollars from years to decades in the future and make use of them in his presidency. Moreover, in the Roth Tax-Free withdrawl provisions, it also insured that those tax dollars would not be replaced through future IRA withdrawls.

I guess "Think of the Children" doesn't come into play on this issue for them. As a disclaimer, I want to point out that the Roth IRA legislation WAS written and sponsored by Senator Roth, who is a Republican.

With inflation, basic economics prove, a dollar is only worth a dollar today. 20 years at 3.5% inflation you dollar is worth 50%. So It's impossible to save for retirement with $4,000 a year an even a 30 year savings program. at average earnings of 8.9% and fee's of 1.4% your net savings grows at about 7.5%. over a 30 yar peroid you have earned 444,000. at a 4% withdrawl rate you income will be $22,200 in a Roth IRA taht will have the buying power of 50%. by those calculations you're in the poor house. can you live off of $22,200 a year? $1,800 a month? probably not.

And you've got it backwards IRA's were the tool to rob. A regular IRA over 30 years provided $39,000 of tax savings but had to be paid back upon distribution in the form of taxes on the higher ammount. Roth's are better.

Well, I personally don't care much for Bill Clinton, his wife now...his wife. :sigh:

That woman is the single most evil thing that could take office. If she gains power I suspect our gun rights specifically (and our rights in general) would suffer far more damage in a single term than Boxer, Feinstein and Bill Clinton's entire career. That Jezebel will bring more shame on this country than any of her predecessors.

I do believe a deal was made, something along the lines of "my son gets two terms, after that we'll hand over the seat to your guys for awhile". In the meantime, the other side was licking their chops, including a woman who had aspirations to that seat of power. Then the first side lost political stance on the Hill. That made them perk up and go "whoa!". So now they are playing damage control, not liking that the other side isn't playing fair. I don't believe Hillary will gain power this time, but more likely a different figurehead will be pushed forward in her place. Obama? I dunno. As we get closer I guess we'll see how it shakes out.

Regardless, if you want to keep your rights. Hey, we may be down to the fourth voting box...not that we necessarily have to use it. Merely that we are willing to. And standing resolute in not giving up that right.

This post is dedicated to Hillary. To the neck that turns the head...

Oh, as I said... I LOVE the Roth, and frankly traditional IRAs are very ineffective in a lot of ways.

I, however, was speaking of the FACT that the conversion created a mechanism by which that congress and administration could obtain access to tax money that would have been paid in the future. It WAS a way to pull money to be paid in another administration into THAT administration.

I am not speaking on the merits of the Traditional IRA verses the Roth in my comments. I prefer Roths, but I DO know what the fiscal effect of the converstions was.

On an editorial note, if anyone believes the money just in their IRA is going to provide for their retirement, they are a fool. In most cases, the exact same can be said of your 401 (k). And that is why I've had a job for the last 17 years.

I feel the same way. Can't stand Bill's politics and his slimy past, but he'd be the first president that I'd invite over for a barbeque if I had a choice among presidents- so long as he doesn't bring the wife.

    Tecumseh,

If your friend that you disagree with all the time told you that you CANNOT have high-capacity magazines, would you still be friends with him? That's pretty much what Bill Clinton did.

    JLStorm, you have some issues.

I despise him, and Hillary. That said they will take the POPULAR side, whatever it is. Remember how he used to do polls before he did ANYTHING? Obama, and Rudi are RABID antigun. The Clintons will only screw you for donations, or if it boosts their numbers.
I just realized that is the nicest thind I have EVER said about them.
