Looking at pittspilot's post reminded me. What do you guys think of the usage of guns in modern day songs? I for one think it's simply ridiculous- For example...

2-Pac (Definition of a Thug Black Person)
"That's the way it goes, it's time to shake a hoe, make the dough
Break a hoe when it's time to make some mo'
I keep my finger on the trigger of my Glock"
He's breaking a safety rule! Not to mention Glocks are ugly

Taking Back Sunday (Cute without the E)
"And will you tell all your friends
you've got your gun to my head
This all was only wishful thinkin,"
He needs to call the cops!

Saliva (Always)
"The pistol's shaking in my hands and all I hear is the sound "
Could he be flinching? Someone needs to put the pistol down and get some rest!

It annoys me when singers write lyrics pertaining to guns! Share your opinions on these.

How about Skynyrd's Gimmie Back My Bullets. Silly things shouldn't have left the weapon in the first place... :)

I guess we've got too much time on our hands. Shoulda wrote a Congressman with your time instead.
Anyway, Saliva's from Memphis, fyi.:neener:

"Bubba shot the jukebox, last night..."

There are more bad musicians than there is bad music. -- Isaac Stern

"Accidents will happen,
We all heard Ricky say
He fired that six-shot to the wind
And that child blew a child away!"

(From the Skid Row classic, "18 and Life.")

"I'm gonna buy me a shotgun with a great long shiny barrel,
I'm gonna buy me a shotgun with a great long shiny barrel,
I'm gonna shoot that rounder that stole away my gal."

Jimmy Rodgers (the one that passed away in 1933)

"I didn't know the gun was loaded,
and I'm so sorry, my friend..."

It is extraordinary how potent cheap music is. -- Noel Coward

"Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?"

"I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady, you know she's been messin' around with another man."

-Jimi Hendrix

Hand guns are made for killin'
Ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

Sonora's Death Row
by Robert Earl Keen Jr.

Me and the boys we cinched up our saddles and rode to Sonora last night
Gun's hanging proud, daring out loud for any one looking to fight
Card cheats and rustlers would run for their holes when the boys from the old Broken O
Rode up and reined on the street that they named Sonora's death row

Mescal is free at Amanda's saloon for the boy's from the old Broken O
Saturday nights in the town of Sonora are the best in all Mexico
They've got guitars and trumpets and sweet senoritas who won't want to let you go
You'd never believe such a gay happy time on the street called Sonora's death row

Inside Amanda's we was a dancin' with all of Amanda's gals
I won some silver at seven card stud so I was out doin' my pals
But the whiskey and mescal, peso cigars drove me outside for some air
Somebody whispered "Your life or your money", I reached but my gun wasn't there

Break:

I woke up face down in Amanda's back alley aware of the fool I had been
Rushed to my pony, grabbed my Winchester and entered Amanda's again
Where I saw my partners twirling my pistols and throwing my money around
Blinded by anger, I jacked the lever and one of them fell to the ground

Amanda's got silent like night in the desert, my friends stared in pure disbelief
Amanda was kneeling beside the dead cowboy plainly expressing her grief
And as I bowed my head a tremble shot through me my six-gun was still at my side
I felt my pockets, there was my money, I fell to my knees and I cried

A nightmare of mescal is all that it was for no one had robbed me at all
I wish I was dreaming the sound of the gallows they're testing just outside the wall
The mescal's still free at Amanda's saloon for the boy's from the old Broken O
I'd give a ransom to drink there today and be free of Sonora's death row
I'd give a ransom to drink there today and be free of Sonora's death row

Nah:

"I see... the blood all over your hands...
does it make you feel... more like a man...
was it all... just a part of your plan...
this pistol's shakin' in my hands...
and all I hear is the sound... "

When I was a young boy, mama told me

"son, always be a good boy. Don't ever play with guns"

But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.

Johnny Cash

My brother listens to rap and there's this new guy called 50 cent. I thought this was funny.

We ridin 'round with guns the size of Lil Bow Wow
What you know about AK's and AR 15's?
Equipped with night vision, shell catchers and dem things, huh

In Skynyrds "Gimme Back My Bullets" the bullets he's talking about are bullets on the top 20 chart. A bullet means the song is rising on the charts, take the bullet away the song has stalled.

I'm a Skynyrd fan, saw them in concert a few months ago with Ted Nugent but I just had to go out for another beer when they started playing "Saturday Night Special". The VPC could use that as a theme song.

"Gimme Three Steps" has some dangerous gun handling;

"I was cuttin' a rug at a place called the Jug
with a girl named Linda Lou.
When in walked a man with a gun in his hand
and he was lookin' for you-know-who"......
....."He was lean and mean and big and bad Lord
a pointin' that gun at me".....
....."And I'm tellin' ya son
it ain't no fun
starin' straight down a fourty-four"

"Why they called it "Peacemaker", I'll never know..."
