data powder 73? 2230-c?

Has anyone used this yet? powder valley has it cheap right now. I deciding on which powder to stock up on and its between this and 2230-c(for 223 and 308 loads) any feedback on experiences with either? Thanks

February 2005 issue of Rifle's Handloader magazine (pg 22) has extensive review of Accurate 2230-C powder by R.H.VanDenburg Jr.

2230-C is a ball powder between 2230 on the fast side and 2460 on the slower. Article discusses a number of cartridge loads; many recipes were constructed by referring to reloading guides and splitting the difference between 2230 and 2460.

Closing paragraph from the article states:
"I would begin working with 2230 load data as instructed. Where warranted, heavier charges may be carefully explored, but I would caution you not to exceed 2460 data, except as noted with the .223 Remington, until further laboratory data is forthcoming."

look back a page or two for the dp73 thread. couple of us have used the powder and posted chrono results. I bought 32 lbs of it and have loaded just shy of half of it now, and shot a good bit of it.

I'm planning to buy some more.

btw, i bought 40 lbs of 2230-c years ago and still have a jug left. I like that powder a lot too, for what it is.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the cheaper (currently 73). If they were the same price, I'd probably pick 73. keep in mind though that 73 is fixed supply and when it's gone, there won't be any more. So, if you were looking for a load to use for years and years, go with the 2230-c.
