Hi good folks,
Is it possible to get a date of manufacture for my used Remington 870 Express Magnum? Serial is A950xxxM. Where is the best place to get an aftermarket stock for it (field not tactical)? And lastly, where can I find out about disassembly? An owners manual?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

~Thanks, John

Call Remington at 800-243-9700 during business hours, work through the phone tree, give them your serial number and they will tell you the year of manufacture.

Look at Remington's website for an owners manual, or ask for one when you call.

Stocks? They're all over. You need a replacement... why?

When I got this Remy 870 from the pawnshop it was pretty beat up. I re-blued it 3 or 4 times and it came out pretty nice actually. The stock was a mess so I sanded it down to bare wood. I put 3 coats of stain on it and then 3 coats Minwax Polycrylic. The problem is that when I bring it up to my cheek I can smell the odor from the Minwax. To be honest I guess it's not a big deal and the 870 looks nice now but how can I get rid of the "odor" without getting a new stock set?

~Thanks, John

It is just going to take time. Keep it out in the open where it is warm and there is good air circulation. Eventually, the odor will disappear -- or you'll just get used to it. If the stain wasn't totally dry when you put on the top coat, the carrier of the stain has to migrate through the finish. Otherwise it is just the solvent from the final finish evaporating slowly as things cure.

Hey, thanks Oldnamvet, I appreciate the info. It's really not that bad but if the odor goes away that would be good too.:D

God bless ya....I'm a old nam vet also. Take care......John

I just bought a like new police stock (these were pulled from new guns) for $30.00 on gunbroker. These have the shorter "corn cob" style for end, which I like very much. Just search gunbroker.com for 870 stock. These are walnut, on the plain side, and plainly finished, but for $30.00...
