Confederate Country and proud of it!
I bought a set of Dawson Fiber Optic Sights to place on my Nano. I also have two sets of Night Sights. The front sight is easy to change out, And since I hit the range quite a bit, I put the Dawson sight on. However they were a little small.
So I took two of the filaments and cut a small piece off and melted then together. Instead of putting inside the base. I just formed it on the outside.
This sight is really bright.Great for fast action shooting.

Very inventive. That will make a bigger and brighter front sight. However, one of the advertised advantages of the Dawson fiber optic is they are very precise. Watch from about 1:20 to about 2:20 in this Dawson Precision fiber optic installation video from Dave Dawson

I have shot the sight both ways. And for me, or my eyes, precision was actually easier for fast shooting with the Larger Picture. Of course that is all subjective may vary for each individual or the type of shooting they do.
I also have a Big Dot, which was also nice and shines up well. I also have the Ameriglo and the Trijicon for night sights. What is interesting I bought the Ameriglo off of Ebay New. (They have sales throughout the year. I paid $29.00 for them and $105 for the Trijicon. And they are exactly the same sight. Just re-badged.

Bid Dot.

All I'm saying is the small fiber optic dot is a characteristic feature of the Dawson fiber optic.

I'm not saying you can't see one better, or that you shouldn't like the bigger dot, just that Dawson advertises their small, precise dot, as a feature of their fiber optic sight. Other fiber optic sights may give you, out of the box, something that you probably prefer over the small dot from Dawson.

They may be similar, but they probably aren't the same. However, Trijicon recently purchased Ameriglo, and they may become even more similar.

No, I understood what you were saying and aware how Dawson advertises there sights and set them up to be small.
Of all the sights I prefer the Truglo as on my LC9s, but they did not make them for the Nano, so I had to go with Ameriglo and Trijicon and Dawson.
I do find it interesting or wonder how both companies were operating. Was Ameriglo just a distributor or were they making their own sights? As far a similar, they were exactly the same in build and appearance, one which could be a copy of the other. If I mixed the two sights up, I would not be able to you which one was which. Even the writing of was the same.
I would bet they came from the same manufacturing plant.

Regardless, what I was trying to get across is that any or maybe other fiber optic sights can be made larger, not necessarily the brand. Thank you, I enjoyed the article and alway's love the marketing side of the Gun world. (Which makes for a very interesting subject alone.)

FYI here is a Pic of the rear sight of my Ruger LC9S with Truglo and the Nano with the Trijicon, I mean Ameriglo, wait, I can't remember which.

Oh no, they were completely different companies. Though both do offer a variety of sights with a big bright front dot with tritium inserts. Trijicon may be the supplier of tritium inserts that a variety of sight makers use, but until recently, Ameriglo and Trijicon were different companies.

There are lots of fans of Trijicon's HD sights all over the web, but many have moved to Ameriglo, first due to cost, and second, the Trijicon's have a reputation for being very sharp on the corners and ripping up cover garments, and hands, while the Ameriglo sights have a much more comfortable bevel to their sights. In addition, there are bunches of options in the Ameriglo line-up that aren't offered in the Trijicon line-up (and I'm sure the other way around).

Here's the Ameriglo website, if you're not familiar with their offerings beyond what Midway/Brownell's/Optics Planet/etc. offer.

I was looking at a Dawson front for my Glock 17L...but I have no idea which height to pick!

Look at the Dawson website and you will see a calculator based on where you shoot. The size is only the height difference. At least as far as I can tell. And for me, as I mentioned very small to see. JMO. I would imagine that Glock has a lot of options besides just Dawson.

Gotcha. I think I'll bench this gun next time out and see where it regularly hits before trying to figure out which one to get.
