DC gun rights poll!

You gotta love the false choice:

People have the right to arm themselves
vs
There's enough guns in DC (obviously in the wrong hands)

Common sense and Constitutional rights seem to be kicking butt at this point 85 - 15%. Since they got home rule they've pretty much scresed up everything. I look forward to the weekly, or daily, DC incompetence report. Let the honest citizens have a chance.

The Federal District was set up originally as a home for the Federal Government offices and Federal workers so as to ensure the Federal Government the ability to operate free of local political interference.

With the current home rule situation, the unfortunate reality is that the local D.C. City Government interferes massively with Federal employees trying to get to and from work.

The city's traffic system (metro & roads) is a nightmare, crime control is non-existant, fire and ambulance are very substandard, the ignorant and corrupt imbeciles on the City Council misspend the massive Federal subsidies they receive each year and try continually to impose a commuter tax on Federal workers, etc.

Thank god that Congress has retained the power to over-rule City council decisions and even revoke home rule if needed.

Hatch's bill to restore the 2nd Amendment to the District will be a godsend to the Federal workers and D.C. residents.

Any THR member living in the D.C. metro area particularly, and all THR members for that matter, need to write their Senators and Reps and support this, and say something about the need for shall-issue CCW in D.C. & joint CCW recogintion between D.C. and MD, VA, etc.

Done. Again & again. And will continue..

you know, i have to say - right now, i don't feel a pressing need for a ccw (i'll get one eventually, mind you), as i rarely leave western fairfax county. but if i could carry on trips to pgc and dc, i'd be filling out forms as we speak.

i'd also be feeling kinda silly, as i'd have to carry my p22, but hey ;)

After seeing a version of this on a forum (TFL?), I've been itching to see if the Washington Post -- aka "The Pravda on the Potomac" -- would print it...

To the Editor:

As one of your neighbors to the west, I applaud the District of Columbia's restrictions, and urge you not to allow your law-abiding residents to own, much less carry, guns of any kind, especially handguns.

You see, for many years we here in the Commonwealth of Virginia have been allowed to do this, and criminals know it is a bad idea to attack a Virginian. Nothing says no to a rapist or mugger quite like a bullet hole in the chest.

We are certainly doing our best to spread the news to Virginia criminals that District inhabitants seem to prefer to be defenseless lambs -- except for the members of Congress who can afford private bodyguards, of course! -- and that it is much safer for miscreants to move to DC and do their evil deeds there in the "predator wildlife refuge" your masters have created.

This encourages any rapists, muggers, killers, terrorists, gay bashers and other predators to leave Virginia and move to the District (or Maryland, almost as much of a sheep-pen as DC). The exodus of our criminals helps ensure the continued well-being of Virginia residents, even -- or especially -- those who choose not to carry a handgun.

Those of you who will be victimized by these transplanted predators can find solace in knowing that we deeply appreciate your un-elected officials keeping you available as easier targets of opportunity.

In gratitude,

N. N.
