Was at Wallyworld (don't flame me too bad) buying a bunch of closeout ammo and happened to see the Remington 700 ADL's on closeout for $325. They had a 7mm (mag I believe) and a .270 left.

I bought 140 rounds of .270 @ $7 a box so I know I'm going to pick the .270 up regardless. Does anyone think the price is good enough to justify buying the 7mm also?

Is it the real deal ADL with a wood stock or is it synthetic?

Either way that is very cheap for a 700 (NOT a 710), especially if it is a wood stock.

The 2 ADL's left were the syn stock types, Do they differ internally from the wood stock versions? I will most likely change the stock anyway.

They have the 710's also but I'm not interested in them, the 710 was $275 on clearance.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a BDL in 30 06 already and it's a great rifle. The only difference I could tell between the ADL's there and my BDL were the jewelled bolt, floorplate in the mag well, and the fancy stock.

My BDL also has iron sights on it (which I don't use) and the ADL's had none. Other than that, I'm curious what differences the 2 models have that would affect any performance.

The only difference I can think of that you didnt already list is the ADL usually doesnt have as good a finish as the BDL. But the action, barrel and trigger are the same as the BDL. I have a 700 ADL in .270win that i've had for 5 years or so, and it is an excellent rifle. $325 seems like a good deal, i paid close to $400 back when i bought mine.

I'm gonna post this, I'm sure I'll get some feedback, but it just something I heard.

I "heard" that the ADL is built after the tooling from the BDL's have opened up beyond a certain spec. Not to say the ADL is made poor, or that they're "seconds", just that some of the tolerances are not as tight as the BDL. I'm not sure I believe that, but it does make some sense I guess.

Anyone else ever heard this one?

I understand where you're coming from. I "heard" that the ADL has a tendancy to be more accurate to to it being more "rigid" because the extra material is there where the floor plate is.

I've been glancing around the web all day comparing the 2 now and there are definetely a ton of opinions like the 2 that we heard. This will only be a back up hunting rifle with $150 max on optics so I'm not too concerned about accuracy.

I am curious though if anyone will chime in with definite answers to the things we've brought up.
