I was thinking of purchasing this. Is getting rid of the bullet button all that's needed to have a normal AR?

I believe so, but why? Why not buy a non CA AR instead?

You can buy a regular version for not much more. Plus you still have to buy the parts to swap out so it's not saving you.

You could always get one of those magnetic "tools" that stick on the bullet button - just take it off before you enter California!

CA laws are complicated but here is what I did. I purchased a DPMS Panther 308 while living in FL. When moving back to CA, I then bought and "off list lower", and bullet button and installed both. That made my rifle CA compliant. The lower is the registered firearm so you will need the FFL paperwork on it. So both lower and bullet button are required for this type of AR weapon.
