After work this AM (I work nights) I drove out to a trailhead leading to a clear cut I'd spotted on public land (thanks, google maps) and it looks very promising. The cut itself looked like a dry hole: not much sign and the breeze blew every which way. No way I could hide my manstink in there... but the skidder road into the cut was another story. I found deer poop and quite a few fresh hoofprints! Better yet, not a single trail camera in sight and no tree stands, or scars thereof, anywhere. And, an easy 1/2 mile walk from the road. Woo!
I think the next step should be a couple of trail cams of my own. Any recommendation which (inexpensive!) camera to buy?
Also, how can I learn when the velvet comes off? I found some wounded saplings but the scars looked quite old.
