i have a solid oak gun cabinet with glass front I keep my hunting guns in and was wondering would it be beneficial or waste of money for me to buy a small dehumidifier for it?

Depends on where the cabinet is sitting. Buy a cheap hygrometer at Walmart and monitor your humidity for a day or two. If it is 50% or less, a good wipe down with oil is all that is needed. With a good oil like Eezox or Rig grease, you could probably store them in a swamp and have no rust issues.

Last year, we cleared out my grandfathers nice collection from a custom built cabinet. He kept it in a room on the main floor of his home where the door was shut with no climate control inside. His guns had been sitting in there for 25+ years and probably not wiped down more than once a year. They had zero rust.

Cabinets in my bedroom with the heater ducks closed 99% of the time. I found a couple battery operated ones would that work as there is no where to run a plug to unless I run an extension cord. It's a 8 gun cabinet of that helps.

If you dry a wooden cabinet out too much, the wood could either split or get gaps at some of the seams, esp. at the corners. You would be better off getting the gauge, put it inside without opening the case for 2-3 days, and see what readings you get over that time.
Depending on where you live AND whether it is summer or winter, will affect the levels of humidity in that case more than anything you could do. Keep the guns clean, wipe down with a LIGHTLY oiled cloth about four times a year
and you shouldn't have any problems.
