Del-Ton Vs. CMMG

I'm torn between these two brands for a mid-length Ar-15 Upper receiver. They are both regarded as good manufacturers, from what I've heard, but Del-Ton is so much cheaper. What kind of cost cutting measures does Del-Ton do? I'm just having a hard time believing they are so much cheaper, without some serious corners being cut. It just seems far to good to be true.




P.S. I'm aware of the ridiculously long wait times, and am patient enough to cope with them. So leave that out of the comparison.

 

If those are you only two choices then CMMG. Del-ton isn't exactly what I would call good.

 

i own a CMMG kit on a spike's tactical lower, i can tell you by experience that the overall quality of CMMG is better than a Del-ton. when i say by expecienxe i mean shooting them and cleaning them with my friend after an afternoon of shooting. my friend have m4gray and his brother a full-lenght, both from Delton, one think i can say is that they haven't fail, they both work very good, in fact i'm thinking getting a full lenght from them.

the delton is something you want to shoot the hell out of it before you upgrade for someting better. both are good company, but the CMMG is better in overall quality.

my vote goes for the CMMG, but you wont go wrong with a Delton.

 

I've no experience with CMMG other than my reading.

However, I have a Del-ton M4gery that I've had for about two years now.

I have absolutely NO complaints with it, and I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Let me elaborate; I am wondering if CMMG from a functional standpoint, is worth the extra cash over Del-Ton.

 

My CMMG has been less than good. No experience with Del-ton.

 

Del-ton quality...

I have a 16" DTI middy
and lower as well
they arrived separately and the fit was a bit looser than my Bushmaster shortyAK
I stuck a acc-wedge in there and it is good to go.

My only complaint so far is the inside finish of the DTI upper receiver is a light gray which contrasts with the outside of the receiver which is a black

Not sure what to make of this color difference - is this OK?

The Bushmaster does not have such a dramatic color difference

Both shoot great
the DTI shoots MOA or better with the right loads - yes more than 3 shot groups...
I am trying to develop a 68 grain load which currently is not working (8" groups)

I got it with a much better trigger - two stage RRA in the DTI
the BM has a stock trigger, very high pull weight - feels like 8 lbs.

 

My Del-ton never had a problem. Not the most accurate AR ever but not bad either. It was a range rifle and did just fine for that. I never had a single malfunction other than when one mag went bad. When it was removed from the mag rotation all problems were gone.

 

CMMG has had far more favorable reviews than the DelTon ones I have seen. With that said, I dont know what corners are being cut to lower the prices down to what they are.

 

Del-Ton has never done me wrong.

 

del-ton has had a lot of praise on this forum and among many other popular gun forums.

mine hasnt had any problems and while fit and finish is nothing compared to a noveske but for a rifle original priced at $750 it is a very well built peice.

 

i love my delton. i dont think its top of the heap

but its silver for the price of scrap aluminum

my opinion is based solely on them being a MO company and i might or might not be a MO resident.

I've not heard of any issues with them. I've not heard of Del-Ton at all.
