Democrats take control of the Senate

I love libertarianism, too. But their party apparatus is a shambles, and they haven't the slightest idea how to win an election. The Libertarian Party is the party of publicity stunts and self-righteous press releases - don't hang America's salvation on them.

Progunner,

you are engaging in a heck of a lot of assumptions about your fellow THR members and fellow gun owners. And you are directing a heck of a lot of unwarranted anger towards them as well.

Do you really think every gun owner went to the voting booth and voted Democrat just to anger you?

For the record, I voted Republican for George Allen because he has been pretty damn good on gun rights. Feel free to apologize now.

Have some humble pie and go buy some hicap mags and chill out.

By the way: anyone who hasn't bought their evil assault rifles, hicap mags, and surplus ammo by now is being rather foolish, because you can bet your boots the Republicans in office and the RNC would ban them too if they thought it would get them votes. Hopefully this defeat will make them wake up and appreciate their base again.

Kowboy, I take it that you aren't exactly trying to win friends and influence people toward the Libertarian Party. I have always been sympathetic toward Libertarians, even though I haven't really had a chance to vote for them. It looks like I may have to reconsider. The Constitution Party is sounding better all the time.

Bush should be proud. He has single-handedly destroyed the Republican Party.

This is such a fitting, if somewhat sudden, death of Neo-Conservatism.
Bingo.

Glad to see the NeoCons go. Too bad they had to screw thing up so badly before we could get rid of them.

Ironic to say - but now that the Democrats are in power in the congress, maybe the budget will get balanced and spending reigned in. And maybe the police state GWB has been building will be taken back a notch. And his preposterously interventionist policies will be reconsidered. Whoever called him conservative, anyway?

Time for Republicans to decide what they stand for. If GWB is it, they are in a lot of trouble.

I can tell you what happend.

I got up this morning and heard the bad news.

Then, I went and checked my mail. I hadnt checked it in a few days. I had a flier from the Texas Rupublican Party.

It said, "On Nov. 7th, your vote will decide..."

Then on the back it says "Which values guide the country..."

-Minor daughters informing parents about abortions
-Flag Burning
-Defense of marriage laws
-Laci Peterson laws to protect women from violence
-etc.

And I thought... THIS IS THE BEST THEY CAN COME UP WITH!?!?

THIS is what they run on? This is the best they can come up with...

Wow. No wonder we lost. Conservatives lost because the "conservative" party is full of crazies who think the majority of America CARES about this, much less wants this garbage.

We're doomed.

Doubt it. They like the power just as much, and it is even sweeter to them since they didn't put their a$$es on the line to get it.

More likely, we will see further abuse of the WOT legislation in the coming years and months. Both parties further their own agendas by whatever means available.

We don't get freedoms back. Best we can hope for is to minimize losses.

Hopefully, those folks here who voted third party will partially make it up to the rest of us by giving an extra large donation to NRA, GOA, SAF, etc.

Actually we're waiting on the Republican conservatives to vote for a viable candidate.

I think the overall message from the American people, really, is that they'll vote for Republicans when they field some conservative candidates.

And I mean actual CONSERVATIVES. Fiscal conservatives, not theocrats.

I wouldn't discuss this as if it was official, because it isn't. Wait for the recount. History will turn on it. Webb's lead could widen or disappear. The lawyers will be out in force. Only a concession from Allen would change anything, and that happening seems inconceivable.

Damn! Well maybe the Republicans will go back to being actual Republicans not "Democrat light". Morons.

Pilot has it right. The Republicans will never succeed by trying to mimic the Democrats and being "moderate". Poll after poll shows that there are twice as many people who favor conservative positions as liberal positions, but Republicans continue to think that being too conservative will hurt them. Here in Illinois is a perfect example. The Republicans ran Judy Topinka, a career politician that most folks saw as no different, for good or bad, as the current Democratic governor. I truly believe that if the Republicans ran true conservative candidates they would win. Right now I truly fear for our 2nd Amendment rights that the liberal Democrats do not believe are rights at all. I also fear for the lives and well being of my family as we continue to reaffirm to the terrorists that we don't have the guts to really fight them, and want to find a way to exit Iraq as quickly as possible. I think it will take a major attack on the US, something that makes 9/11 seem like a minor event, to wake up the American people. Or possibly we are so far down the road of fear and cowardice that even a nuclear bomb on an American city will be met by cries of "What did we do to make them so angry at us?".

I think that's drinking the Kool Aid. Afghanistan had a lot to do with terrorists. Iraq did not.

Speaking of pathetic, yours is a prime example of the exact mentality I was referring to. No doubt you, intellectual giant that you are, either voted for Democrats or Libertarians to "teach Bush and them damn Republicans a lesson."

Well guess what, genius - you and your fellow moron protestors screwed every gun owner in America with your tantrum vote. GREAT work. By God, you showed us all!

It might be prudent to wait until Democrats actually try to pass some gun control legislation to make statements like this.

Imagine the shock if a candidate was elected that actually delivered while in office what he promised on the campaign trail...

That's what America wants. Politicians to represent them, not the Party. Politicians that make good on their promises. Politicians that at least try to make good on their promises.

Last guy I can remember who did what he said he was gonna do was... Clinton?

The way I see it, if we had kept on the course we were going, disastrous spending and all, we might well have had to USE guns when the economy eventually pulled an Argentina-style implosion.

Now there's some opposition to the rubberstamp spend-and-spend neocons, there can be some subpoenas and some ANSWERS as to who is responsible for the mind-blowingly stupid "strategery" in Iraq that had military historians around the world throwing up their hands in disgust. There can be answers about illegal aliens, port security, border security, and why the HELL bin Laden is still alive!

If one of the new Dems makes a peep about gun control, THEN open up with everything you've got, and make them knock it off. If Pelosi goes off on pet issues instead of real issues, raise hell. But until then? Consider it balancing a badly-listing boat that was about to capsize and destroy everything. The neocons needed to be thrown overboard, and someone needs to sign up some real old-style conservatives to man the stations correctly.

I've waited twenty years for the religious right to get their a$$es handed to them and it happened last night. It was sweet.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

As much as the anti-religious moral relativists (like yourself) would love to believe this was a vote against "Jesus Land," that's simply not the case. The best evidence is the overwhelming passage of the 8 Preservation of Traditional Marriage ballot initiatives.

This outcome is the result of 2 main things:

- Candidates were too republican and not conservative enough. Many conservatives stayed home, didn't vote for "RINOs," or went with a 3rd party.

- The American people have become complacent in the 5 years of protection Bush and the DOHS have provided. They have forgotten that this will be a long struggle against a persistent enemy. They can't stomach the reality of the struggle, and are changing the channel on the WOT.

The first problem can be overcome by cleansing the GOP ranks of RINO's and left-leaning "conservatives." The second problem will be resolved when we're hit at home a second time.
