I've been carrying an M&P 9C in a desantis mini slide for awhile and its not working out too well. I like the size and angle of the holster but don't like how its formed. The leather is molded on the belt side and if you wear a good belt if caves in and makes holstering the gun almost impossible. If I wear a typical single layer storebought belt its fine, the belt kinks around it and the holster stays open. It doesn't hold it very tight to your side though. I have a handmade double layer belt I prefer to wear and it smashes the holster shut.

Any suggestions on another holster to try? I'll probably go for an IWB too at some point but when the weather improves I'll be taking my horses trail riding and would like something like the mini slide that is stable and secure, and rides fairly high. I don't want it bouncing around on my belt all day and if it sits too low it may rub the back of my saddle.

Crossbreed Supertuck.

I listened to everyone on THR and another website and they all said the same thing. So I went and ordered a Crossbreed Supertuck and couldn't be happier. Hopefully I'll never have to buy another IWB holster again.

I think you can change the position of the the pistol and how it rides also.

At $55 it is a bargain considering my previous holster was $160.

After a little more looking I think a paddle holster is what I should be looking for. I can't carry at work, and pretty much all the restaurants around besides mcdonalds are off limits because of liquor sales. So I would like something that can be easily taken off and left in the truck when required, and put back on easily too.

Redneck...Got a question (dumb as it may seem). Are you trying to wear a "slide" as a IWB holster?
Haven't been wearing anything as an IWB. I think the desantis slide would work with a cheap belt, but not the one I wear. I think they're off on their "fits up to 1-3/4" belts" too because my 1.5" belt hardly fits through the loops.

That is very odd, unless you're routing your belt around the outside of the holster.
Nope, just like they have it in the picture on their website. Just too much belt for the holster I guess. Not impressed. I made the belt, and I think I'll end up just making a holster too. I like the style for times when I can wear the gun all day. Still thinking I should get a paddle holster for day to day.
I'd post a pic of the problem but I don't have any way to host the picture here.

Lets see if this works, don't think I can host directly from my verizon page....

Well, the double thick handmade belt over powering a store bought holster isn't all that surprising. ;)

I have the same DeSantis holster and it's not bad for a standard, off-the shelf commercial offering, but I prefer the Kydex paddle I ordered from Comp-Tac for the gun.

My DeSantis has the thumb strap, though, since I didn't get the M&P compact with thumb safeties. Is yours open top of with a thumb snap. Just curious.

If I were going to carry the M&P compact all the time I'd probably order the same Done Hume holster I've used for plainclothes and off-duty for many years, their H726, what they used to call a semi-open breakfront. The gun is held pretty securely (thumb snap), the leather is thicker and the DeSantis holsters I have, and the metal wire spring reinforcement and the low-cut front opening seem to aid in both easy presentation and reholstering.

A word of warning on reholstering ANY pistol made with a light trigger pull weight (and especially one where the mechanical safety is incorporated as part of the trigger itself), though. Paying attention to preventing the thumb snap retention strap from becoming caught in the trigger guard (or a jacket/coat cord, drawstring, tie, etc, for that matter) bears some consideration.

I have a bunch of this model holster for several pistols (they stopped making it for revolvers many years ago when I first discovered it, unfortunately).

The older versions had tunnel loops for the belt, while the new ones have plain open slots.

The newer ones also use a plastic cap to cover the inside of the retention strap's snap, but I found this to sometimes catch and hang up on the trigger guard. When it got pulled off one day I got out some of the cloth adhesive 'dots' the used to used to cover the back of the snap and used that, instead. (I asked for some many years ago and they sent me a few pages of them. They're apparently produced for some other purpose and are bought from a vendor.)

Here's an older H726 with my CS45. This one still looks good after several years, but it has only seen occasional use. I just don't carry the little .45 as much as I used to carry it (and I have a neat little special ordered Blade-Tech belt holster for it, too). I have an older brown one that's about as well worn as a pair of good boots. I used it for work & off-duty for quite a number of years, and it still sees use when I carry one of the guns it was made to fit.

I was first interested in the H726 after a should injury. The low cut/spring reinforced front makes for a fast and easy presentation. The muzzle clears when it's still below the belt line. It doesn't provide the protection against dust & blown debris that the pocket holsters can, though.

They aren't as affordable as they used to be ... but what is anymore? ;)

The Comp-Tac standard paddle is a stout piece of plastic and pretty comfortable in the shape and distribution of the paddle. Nice folks with whom to deal, too. Not bad for a general range & work holster for my needs. They make it in a belt holster, too.

I gave up on the IWB idea some years ago. It was long rides on my motorcycle which finally pushed me away from IWB. I have a bunch of them, leather and plastic, from over the years, though.

Luck to you.

Sounds like you need a suitably better made holster to match your better belt, I'd think.

Completely forgot we can upload directly here....

Thanks for the suggestions fastbolt, I will definitely look into the Hume holster you mentioned and the comp tac.
I think I am going to pass on anything IWB for now after trying a few generic ones out. I thought they might be the way to go for occasional carry getting in and out of my truck etc. but they're not that easy to clip and unclip and I've come to the conclusion that they are more of a full time rig. I'd have to get looser jeans to really be comfortable with IWB, but wearing jeans 2 inches too big without the holster 75% of the time isn't worth the trouble either. I definitely don't want IWB while on my horse.

On horse back I either open carry or keep a gun (usually a Mod 19) in a pommel bag. In as much as I carry all the time, having jeans that are one inch bigger isn't really a problem. Around the house and on the property I open carry using a Yaqui slide. Concealed in the summer IWB at 4:00. In the winter both IWB and OWB...Depending on the coat and whether I plan on taking the coat off somewhere. Then again. It doesn't matter in this state.

Problem solved

I made my own. First try at a holster. I based it on the desantis holster but widened it and made the belt slots bigger. I also made it much heavier. The back is 9-10 ounce leather laminated with 6-7 ounce leather. Glued the flesh sides together so its smooth against the gun and the belt. The face is a single layer of 9-10 ounce leather wet moulded and stamped. Have only worn it for a few hours, but I like it so far and the gun draws and holsters smoothly.
I'll probably still buy a paddle holster too.
