As the title says... what are some handgun designs that you would like to see make a big comeback in the market ? In regards to specific models, I’d love to see Sig bring the P239 back into production in its traditional DA/SA format. In regards to generalities, I’d absolutely adore if a reputable company (looking at you NAA) would revive the “fixed cylinder”, double action, centerfire, small bore (.32, .38) revolvers; and the centerfire small bore spur trigger top breaks. What’s your “wants” to see revived on the gun market ?
OK. I thought for a minute there you were being allowed to get a new gun. Oh well. If its just another fantasy thread I guess I would wish for a new K-32. That I could afford.
These would be interesting in an updated form. The Kimber Solo had the right lines and presumably correct modern internals. Didn’t fare well though. I thought it was a neat gun for the very reason it vaguely resembled the 1903 and 1908.
P7M8 maybe modernized a bit. Still a squeeze cocker though. Maybe stack and a half mag for say 12 or 13 rounds in the M8sh envelope.
The P7 is always my first thought when questions like this come up. I fully understand the economics just won’t work but what a design it is.
I’m afraid that’s what we’re stuck with. I’d love to see quality new production Colt SAA’s under $1k, Pythons under $1k, and the re-issue of a 3” Mdl 13 Smith... but none of those are gonna happen.
I'd like to see full sized S&W break tops with the benefit of modern steel allowing them to offer it in magnum calibers. Oh, did I mention at a reasonable price?
I can think of a few I’d like to disappear but I honestly can’t think of anything that’s discontinued that I’m just dying to have.
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner…in my humble opinion. I would love it if Colt would recreate the series 70 Combat Gov’t.
You mean a P7M13? Yes, wish they'd bring this back. Figure out how to plastic it up a bit to lighten (small, but DENSE). Friend had an M8, I shot it plenty, and have briefly shot a PSP and an M13. If at normal gun prices I'd absolutely get one of these and if I still liked it (tastes and techniques change, it's been 20+ years) I'd carry it (with RDS and WML) daily even with the drop in capacity. Worth it. Not at the collector prices they go for now though. Yeeeesh.
Nope I have a 13. Was thinking more along the lines of going thin stack and a half to get to 10-12 I. The M8/PSP envelope. All of this is moot of course because it’s neither cost effective nor do they have those engineers with the expertise.
A P239 would be a gun that I'd be excited to come back and willing to spend what they would likely cost. Most of the other designs I'd like to see come back I can't say I'd be willing to pay for.
All I really want, apart from most of the above is a U22 carbine kit. Always sold out when in production and I never see them for sale used. I wish the SigPro 2022 was still at the introductory price of $399, always meant to buy several. I fear nothing on our want list would ever be sold at my price point.
A H&R 999 or similar top break 22lr would also be something I'd be willing to spend the money on if the assurance of accuracy was there. I would love competing in some of the local rimfire matches with a revolver and a top break is just the right level of class.
