Detonic 1911

Ran into a guy with one at the range a few months ago. He said he was very pleased with it, and either owned or had owned several original Detonics.

That won't stand up in court, but that's the best I can come up with for you.

I saw SHOOTING GALLERY last night and was wondering the same thing. I shoot an earlier version in the early 90s while in the service. I liked the cone barrel and the take down reminded me of the xd/glock. It was a COMBAT MASTER and a Commander style that I shot. I was suprise at how good I shot with the little CM! I had a FIRESTAR in 9mm at the time and it was just as easy to shot as the FIRESTAR. I liked teh BLACKENed one they had on SG and the dou tone. I went to the website, but didn't see one that wasn't stainless. Night drop them a line about it when I get a few bucks closer to getting one. And they are 100% USA made! Might start a "gun jar" for one.

I'm glad to see Jerry Ahern is running it. I read his books and his articles. He is alot of "tongue in cheek" and I was able to meet him while in Denver by chance. I really nice guy in person. I rank him at number two, with Gary James being number one all around nice guy to talk to about weapon history. Haven't had the chance to "meet" Micheal Baine yet! But, as a rule, all the guys form the older PETERSON HANDGUNS mag in the early 90s were nice folks and wrote some good articles.

I saw it on the Shooting Gallery also. No MIM parts, assymbled with CNC parts, and ran over 30000 rounds without a malfunction. A lot of 1911's won"t do that. It is a small company, but the handgun should sell, after the publicity from the Shooting Gallery. I would like to have one, the list price is $1200.00 for most models. The barrel, flgr with three recoil springs are different but it ran over 30000 rounds without a hiccup. I'll give it a try.:)
 
should be able to get them for around $950-$1000 at the dealer. I saw GB had a few for sale at around $900 before shipping and transfer. Not a bad deal really for a 1911 that is cared for like the Detonics.

I'm REALLY liking a Tactical Scoremaster with that blacken finished. If I can get it next year for $1500, it mine!

I was watching Shooting Gallery and saw the Detonics bit too. I missed the begining of the show and imagine my surprise when they went to the "Firing Lane" in Athens where I shoot. I coulda met those guys had I known they were going to be there. I also had no idea that Detonics were located in Pendergrass Georgia. That's a stones throw from Athens too.

My jaw hit the floor when thay showed the front of the indoor range. I'm glad I have TiVo cause I had to run it back to make sure I hadn't imagined it. Wonder if I could get a job at Detonics?

Shooting Times did a test on the new Detonics CombatMaster, August 2006. From the bench rest at 25 yards the Detonics posted an average group of 3.14 inches with 18 different loadings. The best group was Speer 185-gr Gold Dot at 2.09 inches.
 
Please note that the Combat Master is a compact, Officers size 1911 ! The govt model size 911-01 does much better. :)
 
I want one of the 09-11-01 bad. Seems like it would be the best of both worlds super easy to maintain super quality and the best cartridge for personnel defense.

Correct,..In barrel size. Not in Frame size. The CombatMaster has a shorter grip by about 3/8".

Just a technicality...:)
 
Correct ! :) And NO grip safety, and probalbly the most reliable 1911 that size, some popular brands recommend changing recoil springs every 8000 rounds, but I know two Detonics Combat Masters that have 20,000 rounds on the original recoil springs, with nary a hiccup yet . The small Detonics has no less than three captured recoil springs, wound opposite , resulting in dependablity.
 
...and my minty 1981 vintage MkVI will be delivered next week. :)
