Dewey Coated Rod - 22C

I recently purchased a Dewey nylon coated cleaning rod, the 22C size, which is advertised as being suitable for .22-.26 caliber bores. However, I am unable to get it to fit into any of my .22LR or .223 barrels, no matter how small a patch I use or how hard I try and push. It’s simply too tight to fit. Anybody else have this problem?

I guess it’s possible. The rod measures between 0.208” - 0.212” in diameter.

For comparison, my 30C rod which is designed for 0.27 caliber and up, and works great for .30 caliber bores (haven’t tried it on anything smaller), measures between 0.250” and 0.262”.

Seems like the jag you've chosen has much more to do with bore fit than the rod. What size/brand jag are you using? Does the rod fit without a jag threaded on?

The jag that comes with the rod, as well as two other .22 jags I own. The rod fits in the bore, since it measures less in diameter as I posted above.

I have a couple that measure the same. Try a different jag, a longer one. I have had a couple that were very short and only a tiny patch would fit.
I have a 17 cal rod that I often use for 22 cal rifles too.

I have 2 .22 jags. Neither will go through the bore with a standard material patch. I have to use the pre-cut stuff from hoppes or another vendor. it's made of a thin non-woven material a lot like tyvek, except is absorptive. Even that is a tight fit.

Has to be the patch material then. I have found that old T shirts, or similar material, won't work well as it stretches and wedges between the rod and bore.

That’s the thing, I’ve tried even the smallest and thinnest of patches, it makes no difference.

Huh? I cannot get any patches to go through, that’s the point of this thread.

I have a Dewey rod that fits .22's very tightly. Like Fine Figure, I use a .17 rod most of the time.

I now measure the diameter of bronze brushes. Some marked 22 are much large and may get stuck in the barrel.

Cut cotton strips and roll on. I use the same jag for 22 lr and 243.
