I often hear the statement made as a fact that the Senator has a valid permit to carry. Yet, as good a story as that makes, can anyone point to a actual factual source that this is true?

She used to have a permit to carry. I believe she gave it up circa 1993, but that is not to say she isn't protected by people who have access to arms.

She definately did have a California CCW issued late 1970's by the San Francisco PD. Exactly when she gave it up is unknown.

We also know that at one point DC legicritters were being given "honorary US deputy marshal" status with *national* gun carry rights (including DC). Somebody at the Clinton-era DOJ realized that this mixed legislative and executive powers in an illegal fashion and wrote a memo on it. Whether that memo was honored or not is an open question. DiFi was frequently named as being one of the honorary deputies but that's speculation as the list isn't public yet.

The status IS still being used by other dignitaries, almost certainly some middle and upper rank executive branch types who the DOJ memo wouldn't apply to...Condi Rice, Powell, people like that. It's been speculated that legislative staffers might be using it as a form of "informal bodyguard arrangement" for legicritters.

That sounds like an intereting concept. If such a practice existed, its terms, conditions, policies, and procedures should be subject to a FOIA request. Even if a list of names could be withheld based on privacy issues, statistics on program participants should also be subject to a FOIA request.

She claims to have given up her CA CCW after being elected to the senate. Rumor has it she merely traded it in on the US Marshall exchange program.

While this states what they were doing isn't legal, there is no proof they have actually stopped doing it.

    Yup. That's the memo.

But consider: would YOU want to be the one to tell DiFi she can't pack?

Anyways. In the final analysis, is a cop really likely to mess with her or any other Federal legicritter on a gun carry charge?

This reminds me of the encounter I had at the range with an FBI agent who had a short barrel 14" Model 870 shotgun. I asked if that was FBI issue. He said it was his personal shotgun. Since we were in **********, I asked if he had any problems getting KA DOJ approval to own it.

His answer? I'm the FBI. Who's going to bother me about KA DOJ approval

Congressman Hostetler got into serious trouble for having a gun while traveling. That was not long ago.

John Hostettler got in trouble for a Glock at the airport thing.

And I'm pretty sure DiFi does not have her handgun with her in DC.

None of those folks do- hence the recent push to allow handguns in DC.

Rumour had it Orrin Hatch was deputized as a special marshall.

Now who is the biggest champion of handguns in DC?

    ORRIN HATCH!

The 'repeal DC's handgun laws' push is by polticians who want to pack heat in their DC residences. Not because they care about taxi cab drivers who are getting mugged and jacked.

Oh and I'm pretty sure Feinstein does not have a carry permit anymore.

It would have been revoked once the 'threat' against her was gone.

Wether she still has the gun I dunno..........

I would absolutely love to be able to tell her she cannot carry.
