This morning the internet went down right before I went to bed - no big deal, my ISP really blows chunks so I knew it would be down for a few hours and be back up.

When I wake up my wifes tells me they were here to work on the internet.

She looked out the window and saw the fully marked truck and they guy was wearing a uniform so she let him in. Not an A+ grade but Im with her so far.

They guy goes over and sets at my PC - hes there for about 10 minutes. During the course of this he mentions he doesnt work on computer much so this is taking longer then it should (***? - what tech doesnt work on computers much?). He says he changed some settings and it works now. She mentioned the other computers in the house (2 others) and he didnt seem interested in looking at them and walked out the door.

The instant she said this I turned that PC on and looked over all the TCP/IP and DNS settings - they were EXACTLY as I had them before. The PC he "changed the settings" on works....but so does the others he didnt touch.

I think I may be calling the ISP to see exactly what he was doing.....and my wife got a lecture on the need to wake me up for stuff like this or atleast pay attention to what hes doing. She just walked off and left him alone with the PC for over 10 minutes.

Im I paranoid?

She should have had to sign a service report.

I think it would be a very good idea to call your ISP, especially if you hadn't reported a service outage. It's possible the tech might have been on the up and up...but my ISP would never send a tech out with out calling first (hell, it's tough to get a tech out when we do have problems!). This guy may well have been casing your place.

And no, I don't think you're being paranoid at all. You being ther...even if sleeping, might have saved her from a very nasty situation. And you may be saving another person from the same situation, if this visit wasn't legit.

Let us know what you find out from the ISP. PM me if you have to.

She didnt call in the outage, neither did I. He told her he was in the area and could tell she didnt have internet.

Im definitely calling them on this.
