Did that California Microstamping law pass?

Id rather not have the gun laws as well, but there isnt to much we can do about it. If we (the people on THR) made the gun laws im pretty sure it would be alot easier for law abiding citizens to get the things they want like full autos etc. None of this is really going to matter anyways because the people that are going to be using the guns in a crime are probably not going to get the firearm legally anyways.

And if you guys didnt notice, I do live in CA. And I do think the gun laws here suck. Im not condoning this in any way. As for it not stamping the bullet, sorry! I thought I read something that said it did.

Oh, it gets worse. Little known fact:

Any gun--including guns that are already owned--cannot be sold or transferred if it does not have microstamping capability after 2010 in California. That means that you can't give them to your son when you die. You can't sell them. You can only turn them in to the state, or have your heirs do so.

I don't have a source--this is according to my local gun store--the only one left in my town in California. It is owned and ran by the city's vice mayor. He told me that the legislation was sent back to be changed so that weapons prior to microstamping could be transferred/sold, but Arnold signed the bill the way it was initially written.
Egads. One of the worst cases of gunstore FUD I've ever seen.

The micro-stamping law applies ONLY to guns added to the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale after 1-Jan-2010.

All guns currently owned can be transferred by private party sale. All guns on the Roster may be transferred into a dealer's inventory and sold by dealers.

The law could change before 2010, but it is not written as you were told.

What you describe is accurate for California 'assault weapons'.

Here's the link to AB1471, the bill that talks about microstamping.

Here's the relevant text:
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. This act shall be known, and may be cited as, the Crime
Gun Identification Act of 2007.
SEC. 2. Section 12126 of the Penal Code is amended to read:

(7) Commencing January 1, 2010, for all semiautomatic pistols that
are not already listed on the roster pursuant to Section 12131, it
is not designed and equipped with a microscopic array of characters
that identify the make, model, and serial number of the pistol,
etched or otherwise imprinted in two or more places on the interior
surface or internal working parts of the pistol, and that are
transferred by imprinting on each cartridge case when the firearm is
fired, provided that the Department of Justice certifies that the
technology used to create the imprint is available to more than one
manufacturer unencumbered by any patent restrictions. The Attorney
General may also approve a method of equal or greater reliability and
effectiveness in identifying the specific serial number of a firearm
from spent cartridge casings discharged by that firearm than that
which is set forth in this paragraph, to be thereafter required as
otherwise set forth by this paragraph where the Attorney General
certifies that this new method is also unencumbered by any patent
restrictions. Approval by the Attorney General shall include notice
of that fact via regulations adopted by the Attorney General for
purposes of implementing that method for purposes of this paragraph.
The microscopic array of characters required by this section shall
not be considered the name of the maker, model, manufacturer's
number, or other mark of identification, including any distinguishing
number or mark assigned by the Department of Justice, within the
meaning of Sections 12090 and 12094.
Sheesh.

I understand that living in California pertains to having many bad gun laws, but I just don't think that gunowners should accept things like microstamping as inevitable. Someone already mentioned that its either that or a total handgun ban, but considering that the California appealate court recently struck down SanFranfreako's handgun ban that shows something. Once we start to say to ourselves 'ah well, microstamping is bad but at least there's no licensing.' Next thing you know you're saying 'licensing and registration is bad, but at least firearms aren't confiscated yet' etc etc Remember, you give them an inch and they'll take a mile. I'm not trying to put anyone down, I just don't want people in California to get used to this defeatist mentality. Ah, rant over.
