    Hi All!
I was reading up on my next handgun purchase and I keep running into the "2011" model handgun. What is the main difference between a 1911 and a 2011 model handgun??

    Thanks

    Dwayne

2011 are double stacks, 1911 are single stacks.

I think most 2011s are polymer framed, too. But I'm not exactly sure.

Edit: Looking at STIs, it looks like a part of the frame is polymer.

2011 is a modular frame, the frame itself is steel and the grip portion is glass filled plastic. You get all the durability of steel frames, less weight than an all steel gun, the ability to easily shape the plastic grip, and high capacity all in one. A stock 2011 weighs less than an all steel single stack, yet carries double the ammo.
