I've received an e-mailed copy of my approved Form 1 (Application to Make and Register a Firearm) from the BATFE.

My question: do I need to wait for the paper copy of this form, including the official tax stamp, to arrive in the mail, or can I proceed to assemble my SBR on the basis of the e-mailed version?

I'm old school. I want the paper in my hands first.

You waited this long. Another couple of weeks won't kill you.

With an e-file you will not receive a paper copy. I had the same question when I got mine. That is your only tax stamp you will receive.

Most people print a copy to keep with the gun, it is not required and I do not. If anyone asks me for proof (someone that matters) I'll simply tell them to give me their email address and I will send it to them. It's a tax document that proves you paid the tax on that item. I don't carry around my W-2's either so I'm not carrying around that. Of course I've never had anyone ask me to prove my NFA items were legal.

Me neither, however I have heard a local gun range (that I refuse to visit) has asked folks that in the past.

Good to know about the electronic documents. As I am waiting on my first electronically filed stamps.

For all of my approved e-files I print out a copy to keep in my range bag, a copy for each of my safes and I put the PDF on my backup hard-drive. I do the same thing for all of my physical tax stamps as well. I even scan them into PDF form and put them on the backup drive. You can't be too careful! And to be perfectly honest, I tend to misplace paperwork...

Correct no hard copy in the mail. I take all of mine and have a copy store do a 50% reduced color copy and have it laminated. The laminated copies are always in the range bag. I have a trust so everyone in the trust has a laminated copy of each stamp in their bag.
