I've been in the handloading game for many years, did most of my loading on a RCBS Rockchucker and a elcheapo Lee progressive, I have had great service from the RCBS and decent service from the Lee. This past week I called Dillon, ordered the XL650 with the electric case feeder and all the extra stuff for .357 caliber. I recieved it yesterday, began putting it together and discovered that the stand for the case feeder was missing, a call to Dillon yesterday evening at closeing time to tell them I was short a piece.
I called back this morning to see what they could do for me. I was informed that it had been shipped next day air this morning and I would have it in my possesion tomorrow!! I was impressed, no arguement,,sooo, I went ahead and ordered a complete conversion kit for .45 ACP, dies powder measure, tool head, tool head stand, covers for all, dial calipers,,etc. etc.
I think I'm going to like doing business with Dillon!

Let me know how you like the 650? I am thinking of getting the 550...

I have a 550 now for over 6 Years. I load 45 acp, 38's and 357's. Soon to start doing 30/30's. Have the dies for 9mm, however I can still buy factory stuff cheaper than re-loading.

Can not see any reason to get anything else. Once everything is set I have no problem doing 450 to 500 an hour. That is doing everything manually. No shell loader or auto primer loader. I would recommend the Dillions to anyone.

Good to know. I've got the little Dillon progressive, forget the model. You have to feed the cases by hand, but it still cranks 'em out. I need to get .45ACP set up for it. I bought it in 9mm and friggin' 9mm is so cheap now days, jeez, I just go buy 'em at the store. I've been tossing it up and down whether to go for .45 or .38/.357 first. I don't shoot a lot of .357, but do .38 and .45. I have so many various loads I do for .38 though, four, and set up is a pain just for a short run of ammo. I have one major load for .45, so once I got it set up, I could leave it there and just crank 'em out. That's why I'm thinking I'll go with the .45 first.

It's really a lot better built press than the Lee. A friend has the Lee and it works okay, just that it's not as substantial in construction IMHO. Good to know Dillon is a customer friendly outfit. I haven't had to deal with 'em, yet.

It's gotta be almost impossible to go wrong buying a Dillon RL550B. I've had mine for something around 15 years, not sure. I load for several different calibers, most pistol, some rifle.

I know that I can sell the thing on e-bay now for more than I paid for it.

dillon's order fulfillment needs serious, serious improvement. the reason they got those parts to you so quickly is because they've had so much practice. every order i've ever placed to dillon has been screwed up. they've sent me SO MANY wrong parts, and so many free replacements.

their customer service and product imho is second to none, but holy crap do they need to beat the ever living crap out of their shipping dept.

The 550 has to be one of the better jack-of-all-trades presses for people who shoot several different rifle/pistol calibers and shoot enough to justify a progressive setup. It's not the only option, but it's a darn good choice for many shooters who reload.

They've sent me so many parts I could be a warehouse for them - but I'm not complaining. Once one of my Irish Wolfhounds ate a powder measure - I called them to order a new one, told them what happened and they replaced it free (sent me two - not sure why). Great company to deal with.

I think the customer service ethic of some reloading companies should be copied to other parts of the firearms industry. Then they could teach seminars to other companies.
