I just got my Dillon 650 set up this weekend (to go along with the 550b I already have). So for those of you who have a 650 mounted with a strongmount or 3rd party equivalent, do you have the bullet tray with yours as well. I bought the bullet tray but did not install it because I am thinking of a bullet feeder later which would make the bullet tray useless. So, I am going to hold off on the bullet tray until I decide on a bullet feeder or no. If I decide on a bullet feeder, I'll send the tray back to Dillon for credit.

Any thoughts, experiences?

I run a pair of 650's (one large and one small primer). I bought the strong mount, roller handles, and bullet trays for both. The tray makes a BIG difference on long sessions (1000+ rounds).

With my knowledge today, I would have gone with In Line on the mount, handles, accessories, - everything around the Dillon. I did install the lighting, it helps a lot.

edit: I had "bullet feeder" as an accessory - I do not have this.

So, you do have the bullet feeder or you had it at one time?

I use the Dillon bullet tray with my Dillon BL550. I don't have a Dillon strong mount as I built my own stand for the press.

The tray being shallow makes it easier to grab bullets out of instead of reaching in the box that the bullets come in.

I've a pair of XL650s, one LP, the other SP and I've never considered the bullet tray. My bench was purpose build so I didn't need any extra mounting stuff either. I typically dump a 500 round box of .45ACP or a 1000 round box of 9mm into a plastic "Arco" bin -- like the one Dillon supplies to catch the loaded rounds, only larger. My rate limiting step is filling the primer tubes.

I have the inline fabrication strong mount on my SDB with three acro bins and the Dillon strong mount with one acro bin and bullet tray on my 650. The inline fabrication is the better mount but I do miss the bullet tray on the SDB. I'll get the bracket for the bullet tray from inline someday for the SDB. I like to rest my left hand on the bullet tray while loading. When I do that with SDB acro bin I wind up destroy the acro bin.

I tried the strong mount had it side by side with one mounted directly to the bench. I sold the strong mount after a year or so to see if I would warm up to it.

I mounted a right angle bar off the right side that, with the roller handle, I could reach out with my fingers and squeeze the primers into the pocket with a great level of feel but that was the only thing I liked about it. I now mount them to the bench and use the ball handle. I use bullet feeders for the rounds I load most or set the box of bullets on the bench beside the press.

When I had the strong mount I did make a bracket that held an akro bin on the left side of the press in about the same place as a box of bullets on the bench would sit normally.

All Inline Fab mounting hardware and accessories (Ultramount, Quickchange kit, roller handle, lights, bin tray, case feeder mirror, etc.), but I also use the Dillon bullet tray (with the Inline Fab mounting bracket for their Ultramount).

I guess the bullet tray is a waste of money if you are planning to get a bullet feeder, huh?

I would think you are right here. I am not sure if they are even physically compatible with each other... I may be wrong since I do not have a bullet feeder other than my left hand, but my guess is that they are mutually exclusive of each other.

If you have case and bullet feeders spend the money on a primer tube filler. Then this is the routine every 100 rounds.
