Disappointing holster

@ ohbythebay:

- If you carry your gun in a holster, you WILL get wear marks regardless of how well it fits the holster.

- If you have put 800-1000 rounds through your gun, then it DOES have wear marks from it. It doesn't take much of an inspection to find them either, but your slide and frame WILL show them.

- If your holster is defective, then this is another matter. But any wear marks you may have obtained from that are still just that...wear marks. Perhaps they could have been avoided, but they're not debilitating. No more so than a stock which is scratched or a gun whose finish is worn or nicked due to a minor incident in handling. Certainly a cause for a groan or a facepalm, but not much more. This is not to say that I do not understand the anguish or anger one may feel over such...I most certainly do.

- Using wrenches for something they're not designed for isn't what I implied.

- Taking care of tools should be SOP for everybody, Navy or otherwise. But that still does not mean they will not sustain minor blemishes over the course of their life, even under the best of circumstances. And the more it's used, the more wear it will show.

That said, I wouldn't call what you're dealing with "abuse", "neglect", or anything else that implies deliberate, poor handling and care. I'd simply call it a learning experience where your gun sustained some visible wear and tear sooner than it might otherwise have and move on from there.

As a side note, I'm interested in the pros and cons of ANY holster, and I have a thread I started on that not too long ago. I wouldn't mind you posting your experiences on this holster there, as a continuation of such experiences for people to read about.

I'll also be interested in hearing what you get for a replacement. I'm looking for a replacement IWB for my Colt 1991A1 and I'm always interested in other people's experience with other brands/styles of holsters.

:)

Thanks J

I am glad you didn't take the post personal (as it was not mean that way)..just two guys in a room sharing their views...LOL

As to the holster, be glad to do a review...just don't know if its defective or wrong sized (it shouldn't be). It is a cheap ass holster...LOL

I actually bought TWO replacements (shown below) and will gladly do a review on them ...thanks again...

Small holster 1

Examine and try this holster very closely before using it for defensive carry.

The safety strap goes over the backstrap and under the rear tang. This prevents the user from gaining a secure grip on the gun while drawing it.

This isn't just an observation, I've used similar holsters through the process of filling my holster drawer :uhoh: I think my last one was a Bianchi #3 Paddle holster

I bought a Forbus a few years ago (paddle also) Didn't have the gun with me at the time. I bought it from the info. on the package. The weapon is a Taurus Millenium PT111 9MM NOT the Millenium PRO and the package was mislabeled. I returned it and they fitted it to a holster for a Barretta. It fit just fine. Also I think it's made in Isreal. Can't think of a better place to buy anything military.:)

Okay..so....

The Bianchi arrived today...beautiful - except...IT DOESN:T FIT ! I think the Bersa 380 may just be a tad bigger than others.

The gun goes in and out very nicely, snug fit and its only the strap that doesn't quite reach. It seems to be where the trigger guard stops at the holster, the guard sticks out about 1/4" and will go no further.

Translate that since it can't go further the strap going over the tang and trying to reach the snap. it doesn't quite reach. Hmmm...

That is not the issue with the Forbus (obviously) and I am thinking the BEST way to buy a holster is IN PERSON...LOL.

Haven't given up on the Bianchi..It is currently going through a STRETCH...will report back..:banghead:

Or a holster specifically made for your gun, rather than one designed to fit several guns.

Very true !!!

The Forbus was supposed to be.

The Bianchi is ALMOST there...it is being stretched (the strap) and another 1/16th " to go, she will be golden. I like it ! Would like to get that type for my Glock (I have a safariland that fits perfect so no pressing need).

I am just a leather guy...LOL

I saw a Bianchi leather, but $80 ? Maybe that's what I have to spend...sigh

A good holster is extremely important. You wouldn't put $50 tires on your brand spankin new Corvette, would you? I wouldn't, so I sprang the few extra bucks for a good gun belt and a few good holsters (IWB, OWB and a shoulder rig). A good carry rig is about weapon retention and hauling said weapon around as comfortable as possible, as well as durability and usefulness.

I have 2 crossbreed supertuck one for my SIG 226 and one for my S&W M&P Shield. Very comfortable. I've noticed on the Shield that there is some wear on the takedown lever but nowhere else and honestly it rubs off so it might just be coming off of the leather onto my gun. $75 but well with it off you are going to carry all day.
It wears so well I don't even notice the heavy 226 is on my hip

+1 for the crossbreed. Very comfortable, have seen very little marking. The mini tuck is hard to notice when worn, lifetime warranty.

You seem to have a pattern developing.
Please don't take this as an insult, but are you sure there is not a model variance being missed here?

Some of the thunder series are thinner than others.
Another option is to buy one good, quality, holster rather than rolling the dice on a handful of inexpensive holsters.

I am not insulted

And if there is a variance, its in the holsters, not the gun. I have a Standard Bersa Thunder 380. Its not the CC model nor the combat. So if you purchase a holster that says its for that model, you expect it to fit.

Good news is, the Bianchi fits. I just had to stretch the strap. (it did not say it was made for the thunder, it was just generic 380)

so I am good! PICTURES

Wont be a quick draw due to the strap and flicking the safety, but that is not an issue. I do have another one coming (open top) that would be but I am not ever in that situation.

I'm not much of a thumb break guy, but aren't they supposed to ride behind the hammer on a DA gun?

I believe your's is positioned incorrectly, which may be why you had to do some stretching.

I just tried it you way

You may be correct ...but doesn't align very well..(strap pulled in an odd direction) but I believe you are right..it just doesn't seem to fit right that way (ask my wife...lol) she agrees with behind the tang..BUT behind the hammer makes sense...

You guys have to confuse me don't you ? :D

Okay, behind the hammer

Not as astetically pleasing but a HELL of a lot safer..lol..no chance of the hammer getting 'flicked'...would that be Bersa Leg ? LOL

In the second picture there is a lot less twist to the strap than you show in the first pair of pictures. I believe behind the hammer is correct.

Confused

Check with Fobus and see if there are fit issues with your pistol and this holster model

I probably should

Not for me..I have moved on. But for other purchasers...

This (again) is what I purchased

There is no way in hell this is made for a Bersa Thunder 380. Its not the length, its the width. WAY too small. It literally takes both hands shoving to get the gun in (one on the bottom pushing, one on top on the gun pushing). Once there, getting it out is next to impossible. Literally to the point of fearing you may have to cut it off.

I should send it to them just so they can see for themselves, maybe get a refund or a new holster...

I like my new leather one better though anyway...:D

My standard holsters are the Blackhawk SERPA holsters. They lock the pistols in tight, but drawing is super fast and smooth and natural. The only downside is that they are not good for concealment.

I second CMC's recommendation for Wild Bill's Concealment. I have 4 of his paddle holsters. My first was purchased in the mid 1990s and the paddle is an egg-shaped piece of leather that forms perfectly to your hip. There's a strip of additional leather sewn across the paddle to retain it under your belt. VERY comfortable. If I were ordering a holster, I would pay extra for that.

Beware Fobus holster warranty

I was told by the Fobus US distributor that they are not responsible for the PX4 compact holster I bought through Amazon from Gear for Less (it doesn't fit the gun). Gear for Less policy is returnable within a week if unused, how do you try the fit and it is still 'unused'. Bought a Blackhawk Serpa and it is great. Have a revolver holter from Fobus that worked fine but now will never buy their holters again.

Welcome to THR!

Hopefully OP has found resolution one way or another, considering this thread was created more than a year and a half ago.
