District Court Fines Austin, TX, $9,000 for Refusing Carry of Handguns at City Hall

On Thursday, the Travis County District Court ruled that the City of Austin, Texas, violated the law by barring handguns in City Hall and assessed a nine million dollar penalty against the city for the violation.

The concealed carry of handguns has been legal in Texas for decades and open carry for Texas’ concealed handgun license holders became legal on January 1, 2016.

The AG was asking for $750,000 but the judge only awarded based on the few pictures taken. Yeah right, the city was taking those signs down and putting them back up.

Sadly, almost all things City of Austin does are suspect. If they posted an ordinance stating that the Sun rises in the East, I'd robably stay up all night just to be sure at least the once.

"Students" at the college in town famously once discovered that Austin also bans concealed carry of sex toys, so, I'd be more impressed is signage so stating were also in place.

Now, in all fairness, a 9 grand fine is not chicken feed in the spaghetti tangle house of cards which is the City budget. Economically, it's not so big, as that's about what the City wastes in a given week. But, they'll have to cut back 2x or 3x that amount to make it up, or find something else to tax, which is already a heavy enough burden to get people to move out of Travis County and into adjoining Williamson County. (Which increases their travel and make them more inclined to carry, too . . . )

The article is very poorly written, as is most journalism offerings today, as the beginning of the article states that the court fined the city 9 million dollars but later it states that the Judge fined the city $1500 per offense and that there were 6 offenses so the total was $9000. Who knows what the actual fine was.....
