Do I "Need" a Springfield 1911?

I have owned many 1911's, but never a Springfield. I know their customer service is top notch and Springfield makes a great 1911. The slides and frames are cast in South America, which is not a problem for me.

I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I think I would like to add a Springer to the collection. Suggestions on which one? Remember, not a lot of money.

i have a sa 1911, and other than a broken extractor which was an easy fix, it has been great, 4000rds through it to date. there cs is top of the line for sure, and they will take care of you if there is any issues.

No, you want to rub those pennies together and get another Baer, like the SRP.

j/k with you, the SA Loadeds are outstanding guns for the price, well-built, lock-up tight. You might want to try finding a V10 or V12 if you're not looking to carry. Depending on what's "not a lot of money", you might want to look at a GI or mil-spec.

The Springer Loaded is a great gun and a good value. I recently saw a gently used one here locally for $600 - but I was a few minutes late.

Traded for one the next week and it's a well built, great shooter...

Used Springers can be found reasonable if you don't get in a rush.

Yes, but you need to increase your budget and get a Custom Shop Springer.

This is my Springfield Custom Carry. It's equal in quality to my Baer Concept II.

For the money, they seem pretty nice.

The only reason I didn't go with a Springer is that before I pulled the trigger on one, a great deal on a used Kimber came up, so I jumped on it instead. Roommate and a couple buddies are all heavily leaning towards Springfields, though.

Springfield Loaded (parkerized) is one of the best buys out there in terms of a 1911. Used ones are an even better buy and they come up for sale often enough that there's no need to buy new unless that's just the way you roll...

I have a stainless Mil-Spec model, and I really love it. It's completely stock at the moment, and I have close to 10,000 rounds through it. It has been extremely reliable with all types of ammo when using Wilson mags. The ones it comes with are crap.

The reason I went with it was for the balance between a classic look and modern features. I plan to do a few things to it, mostly internal. I personally think it's a much more attractive gun that the Loaded models, though I would say that the Loadeds are a better value in price/features, from a more objective standpoint. Myself, I'd rather buy the Mil-Spec, get a nice action job on it, and maybe night sights for the same price as a loaded model and not be forced to swallow the ambi-safety and forward cocking serrations (ick) etc.

Springfield 1911's are excellent guns. I really like the Mil-Spec that I had the SA Custom Shop modify for me.

Almost all production (read assembly line) 1911s have MIM parts. Don't loose sleep over it. If anything in a non modified Springfield 1911 breaks they fix it.

My SA Black Stainless Target was my first 1911. Extractor tip broke off within the first few hundred rounds, so I can say first hand they have good customer service.

For some reason I did not take seriously their advertised 5-6 lb trigger pull disclosure. Mine was every bit the 6+, and was disappointing for a "target" quality range gun. Everything else about the gun is and has been great.

I got the tinkering bug. Replaced the ILS MSH and the hammer/sear/disconnector. Much nicer trigger and I now know the 1911 inside and out.

Because I have added a few nicer 1911s to the collection it now does most duty with the Ciener .22 Platinum conversion. Sweet, but expensive .22.
