Thompson Center Hawken 45 cal. got a chance to purchase this and it looks perfect in the photos. He has All the accessories one would need to shoot caps, balls and lots of misl. The rifle is 45 Cal my flintlock rifle and pistol are both 50 Cal. I will inspect in person and I have asked for more photos before I drive 2 hours one way. He wants $250. 10282492_01_tc_thompson_center_hawken_perc_640.jpg

Did you really just ask a bunch of black powder addicts if you need a new black powder rifle? I think you know what answer we were gonna give you and just wanted to hear us say "yes" to justify your purchase lol. You can never have enough lead, powder, primers, or guns!!

So you talked to him and he seems to know sidelock muzzleloaders, so he's probably not selling it hot, and the only risk you have is that the bore is roached, but it's pretty good looking on the outside, so......
I drive a 2001 Subaru, and get 23 mpg, so for gas in my area the round trip would be about $25, and four hours time, and THUS total cost would be $275, if I lived where you lived.....
HECK YES, and I'd give him cash for the thing for sure....,

I have already told him I will purchase and with Cash. Just need to arrange a time. Thanks for all the help guys…. and I haven't told my wife yet but I have the cash, just sold a 3D printer I just used 3 years ago.
No its not Hot, it belonged to his dad who died a while back, just wants to get it all done.

PS I may be selling my Traditions Trapper? flintlock pistol, been to the range once and I have extra flints. I never planned on having two BP rifles!!

I recently received several rifles and pistols from a widows son. The lgs would give her $75.00 each for three tc rifles an Uberti revolver and a Ruger old army... I’m gonna sell them for what they’re worth and give her the money. You’re doing right by these people and still getting a good deal. Nothing wrong with that.

Good for you. Pawn shops won't even bother with traditional BP guns in my area. I'm sure you could list them here and they would sell.

I’m tempted to keep a couple of them... but then, do I really need another??
I’ll get pictures of the ones I won’t keep and post them here.

please check the bore. maybe he only shot it once or twice and never cleaned it. it would be a stove pipe in the barrel. good price. if bore is bad offer lower price and have it rebored. the hammer shows it has some age, i like that hammer better than the curved back later ones. looks good again check the bore.

My first “gun” was a Red Ryder BB gun. Foster bro and I would stalk bumble bees on the sun flowers at the tender age of 8. One Christmas a double holster cap gun rig from Sears and Roebuck catalog was under the tree. Now at 78 With a safe full of guns all I stalk is paper targets. The metallic cartridge guns hibernate while I shoot real cap guns on a weekly basis. I

Back on thread. Need isn’t in the equation, at least for me, although the wife expresses that sentiment every once in a while. One of the advantages of multiple pieces the ladies lose track.

Picked it up yesterday. It was older and had not been shot in years, but bore is perfect. Had a little character ding on the otherwise perfect stock back by the bump out for your cheek. Came with a nice plastic tackle box full of BP rifle stuff. Son was selling, dad was in nursing home at age 67 or so, sad story. Mom just wanted things cleaned out.
I need to finish up my BP pistol kit gun today and then take both out to the range.

you got your self a good one at a good price. one thing you may not know about that gun and cal. and its 1/48 twist. you can shoot a 250 grain paperpatched bullet with a wad behind it with 100 grains of real black behind it very very accurately. i had one like yours once and shooting what i just wrote i could keep a one inch group at 100 yards with it. it makes it a lot more powerful than shooting a round ball and 60 grains of real black. a real game getter in hunting. if your interested in shooting it that way i can write up a little info. on how to do it. it isnt rocket science and very easy to do.

i never found the 250 grain pp bullet with a heavy recoil. if you live in a area like i do that deer are rarely shot as close as 100 yards, my pp bullet in your type of gun is very viable. if most of your deer are 100 yards or closer than do it your way.
