Do you actually have and/or only use one revolver?

If you're talking centerfire revolvers, I own one. .38 Spl. Carry and truck gun.
I do have have a .36 1851 Navy replica, and an 1860 Army replica also.

 

I currently only have a dozen handguns. 3 are semiauto the rest are revolvers. All my revolvers get shot on a regular basis. I only keep guns around that I like and like to shoot. Those that I didn’t are gone…I can still kick myself for getting rid of a couple, but that’s the way it goes.

 

The only one this far as I can tell is myself... and “myself” is very poor.

 

This. You can’t play golf with one club, and you can’t have and use just one revolver.

 

Multiple revolvers in the gun closet,
Different tools for different tasks.
So the number could reflect the range of user needs.
If I had to limit the number.....
Could cover my uses with two I use most often.
A S&W M10 (utility) and
FA83 41 Mag (hunting)

 

In my experience the “one revolver” questions usually arise from someone trying to decide on their next gun. “What gun is great enough to be someone’s ‘only’ and have I tried it?” 20-50 people reply and OP gets a nice shopping list to seek more info on.

I personally want to try (meaning, own) several more revolvers at the moment. I have 5, of which two are regular shooters.

 

I have 10. (Currently). Some are specifically for concealed carry, some for hunting, and some kinda sorta do both. My current favorite is the Taylor’s Runnin Iron, but I have a plan to make a set of Magna type grips out of Holly and a cross draw holster for my 4” Model 57, and it’ll move up to number one then.

 

I have a little over two dozen revolvers left and use mostly two of them, a rimfire Korth 24 series and a .357 Korth 26 series but today, I am going to bring a four inch Python to the range.

 

There was a time, in the mid-Eighties, which were lean times, for many in the USA, when I had only three firearms: One duty revolver, an S&W Model 58, one “back-up” revolver, an S&W Model 60, and one duty shotgun, an S&W 3000, which was much like a Remington 870. I would not have owned those three, had I not been employed by a police department, which expected us to provide our own duty firearms.

Notably, the Model 60, a J-Frame snub-gun, was not normally a “primary” weapon for personal-time carry. Whether on or off the clock, the 4” N-Frame Model 58 was my usual primary weapon. For those unfamiliar with the Model 58, is was a fixed-sight N-Frame, chambered for the .41 Magnum. San Antonio PD, in Texas, and San Francisco PD, in California, bought and issued Model 58 duty revolvers. Mine was a former SAPD duty revolver, which I bought pre-owned.

 

Lookin' through my old records, the Ruger GP100 6" that I bought new in 1993 was my only centerfire handgun up to 2006.

For those 13 years, that GP went hunting, target shooting, plinking, was ready for home defense, and was tucked behind my belt in the small of my back on a few occasions. While not the best gun for any of those jobs, it certainly was a multi-tasker.

Of course, my situation has changed since then.

 

In my humble opinion, with an M58, you were well armed for any event - two or more legged.

 

But with all the research you've done, I'm sure you'll make a wise choice for you second one!

 

Maybe... maybe not. At this point, a reliable 1851 Sheriff’s would be a step up- let alone a .45 Colt SAA (clone).

 

You might say I have 4 1/2 revolvers. One is a GP-100 in .357, another is an old S&W in .32-20, the third is a "retired" Colt .38 (unsafe to fire), and a Ruger Single Six .22LR & Magnum.

 

Thats for sure. If you could just get him to pick "One" and focus on getting it.

When I got my first handgun in 1982 it was a 6" model 19. It was the only handgun I owned for several years and never really felt the need for another gun. Not that I didn't look but the model 19 was so much fun I didn't buy anything for a long time. After the first box of WC factory loads I bought a reloading kit and shot nothing but reloads. Almost. I did buy a box of Remington 158gr HP loads and shot those up fast. That one gun served as a reload test bed, a HD gun, it rode with me in my truck on my road trips doing my Mobile Home repair service job and was a twice a week plinker gun. No CC back then so that wasn't a big deal. Simply one of the best guns I have ever owned.

If I could only have one handgun, my choice would be something like that.

 

Wait! You just emailed me this morning asking about an 1851 Navy! Thats what I was talking about in my above post. You can't seem to make up your mind. In a day or two you will be back to the model 10. Probably your best choice. (we need a pulling your hair out emoji)

I'll chime in here:

CCW: Ruger LCRx 3inch; I like its accuracy and ease of carry. It works well for me.
Hiking/Woods: It is a cross between my Model 64 S&W or my 1911; I have a real nice shoulder holster for the 64 from Pistol Packaging.
Nostalgic Carry: I have my wife's grandfather's old Colt Police Positive Special in .32-20; I will carry this in the woods on occasion. I have his original Hunter holster for it.
Plinking/Teaching: I bought a Ruger Wrangler to teach my son how to shoot a pistol; he does well shooting it and I think it is a great tool for the purpose.
Muzzleloading Hunting: Of course I have to bring my Uberti Remington New Army.

 

Only have 1. S&W 624...it was gifted to me by my father in law. I don't shoot it much.

 

I have numerous revolvers, rim and center fire and many more in percussion. Four of those also have conversion cylinders.
All have one specific task. I target shoot with them.
My carry gun, when I think to carry one, is an auto of one caliber or another.
Don’t hunt. Don’t hike. Don’t teach, Don’t run around off road. Just go to the range and shoot. That’s about it.

 

I suspect that the OP's "use" means anything other than lying in the safe? I typically think of "use" in the same manor I do a shovel or chainsaw: deployed to effectuate meaningful work. In that light, I never have, and hope never to "use" a revolver. I have six. Shoot 'em all and carry a couple (66, 44spl flattop) often. To me, if there is a "use" for an object, then I "need" that object. Hence I must maintain my very limited definition of "use" lest six become 26...or 56. I can try anyway.

Assassinate on edge clay birds,
Go for a walk or hike carry it (try a fanny/belt/ shoulder pack for this),
Hold it while watching TV, safety pointing at a pot, planter, etc,
Shoot it more,
Take it to bed,
Carry it more,
Allow it to become an extension of your body and mind.
Then you can comment on it !
