Do you deer hunt all day or mornings and evenings?

Over the years my hunting habits have changed. When I was a kid I hunted with a bunch of old guys that would get up at 3:00 AM and cook a big breakfast. Then they would drop me off at or near a stand in the dark and I would stay all day. I would take a biscuit with either sausage, ham or bacon for a noon meal. If you are not seeing anything thats a long day.

Now days I try to get to the stand while its still dark and stay until about 11:00. Unless I'm seeing Deer. I'll return to camp for a bite to eat and go back out about 2:00 and stay until after dark.I have shot Deer close to dark but it makes for a late supper. Now days it will have to be a pretty good one! I love being in the woods when they start waking up. Love hearing the Owls, Birds and Squirrels when they clock in of a morning!

When we hunted in Canada we would be dropped off at the stands or blinds in the dark and stay all day. We killed several of our Canadian Deer around the middle of the day. It still was a long day in the cold!

I have killed several Deer back when I could still walk by quietly slipping through the woods, stopping occasionally to sit and listen. The only thing about that is having a dead Deer a long ways away from any transportation. I'm not up to that anymore.

It depends on the weather and where I'm at. At home on the farm, I can sit all day irregardless of weather, as my loading room in the barn looks right out across the field. Up in the big woods, I'll pack a lunch on the nice days and sit my stand all day. Lots of rain or snow, not so much. But I will say this....75% of the deer I've take. The last 42 yrs have come between 10:30am and 2pm. When all the lunch crowds going in and coming back out. My biggest to date, a lovely 162-2/8 upper peninsula 10 pt swamp buck, met his fate at 1:20 in the afternoon

White tails in Wisconsin, I start out 1/2 hour or more before opening and go in for lunch an hour after others on their own farms do. I repeat the process in the afternoon. Why? The other property owners will push some deer around. And it's a good idea to know what games are on tv. since a lot of people go in to watch the big game. Last year, I bagged a nice doe during the noon hour. It's not uncommon to take a sandwich out on a stand with me and later go in just for a hot cup of coffee.

Mornings and evenings only. Heck honestly its often JUST the evenings as I'm really not a morning person :), but when I do hunt both depending on where I'm hunting I'll either had back home or to my parents' house to spend the day until I go back out.

We have a long season though and the public land units that I hunt are between a 10 and 25 minute drive from home, so its pretty easy to just drive back and forth.

Deer are crecuspular, that means they are most active during periods of twilight. I like to maximize my chances so I hunt when they are most active.....morning and evening. I have had most of my luck in the mornings.

My plan is to hunt all day but I usually kill a deer at first light... I have no prob sitting in the woods all day from sun up to sun set... I enjoy being out in gods front porch

Deer for me are on a different island, so conditions are different than here
.....there its usually 2 hours tops before its home and cleaning.
If were hunting more for entertainment than getting meat, or need quite a bit of meat, we might be out most of the day.
