Do you display your firearms and related collectables?

The Great White Hunter Gun Room pretty much ran it's course in the 1950's. After some introspection I decided I wanted nothing to do with the image. I found the owners were all about "guns for me but not for thee."

Im fine with a metal rack of M16's locked against the wall. Would that I could.

I plan to remodel the living room. The walls will be tongue and groove knotted pine, like in my shop, but without the clutter.
I plan to display several guns on the walls, mostly military surplus rifles. I just haven’t decided to just mount them on the walls, in racks, or display cases.

I do have this stock mounted above the door going into the kitchen from the shop. Can anyone figure out what it is?

My guess……7.7 Japanese Arisaka stock.

You’re pretty close. The front half is a Type 99, and the butt is a Type 38.
I saw the gun on an auction a few years ago.

My buddy, Matt ended up buying the rifle for parts. This August Matt came down to visit and gave me the stock.

Reloading room....yes, Trophy mount rooms....yes,.......but no gun display room.

Always thought this library-trophy-gun room was something that I'd enjoy having morning coffee in.

Dude that room looks like something from a Resident Evil Video game. Im already looking for the puzzle or Jewel shimmering in the deers eye to collect or something lol.

Im in the middle of moving. And the last 2 months ive amassed a small arsenal of guns.. over 10+ in total.. soo. I dont have a safe yet.. or a gun room. But i sure would like either where ever i move too.

For now im keeping them in a undisclosed location lol . But i really need a massive safe to store em in.. some guns are worth 2000+. And the more i get.. the more i get nervous that someone will rob the place when they see me walking in and out of the house with rifle bags when i go to the range.

Id feel safer if i was with them.. but unfortunately i cant keep piles of guns and ammo in the extended stay hotel im in lol.

Its too bad i cant like rent a safe at a gun shop or something to hold my guns for me.

Not guns, but a few collectible things are off to the side of the office (e.g. not visible on camera from the computer). Some film camera gear that I have used and works, mostly from my dad's photojournalism career but... has been sadly superceded. And this:

Inert or expended (usually by me) munitions. Mostly.

Guns are not "pretty" mostly, I use them so would be taking off display racks, and I'd rather keep them secured in what is definitely a gun "room" but is far too small to actually turn around in much less get a recliner in there and hang things on the wall, esp with it all loaded up.

Keep asking. Buddy of mine was a gunsmith. He had a seperate vault at the shop to store guns, not for repair.
After a house fire, we spent 6 months in an apartment. My guns were in his vault, paid for by insurance. I slept much better.
He had a new vault put in and diversified business. Generated new work, since they were at the 'smith's, tell him the problem or need.

Good luck

Ya i might do that.. right now mine are stored ina junk room behind a door locked with a turn lock you can stick a tiny screw driver in to unlock lol.

I am nervous with them being there and me in this extended stay hotel till we find a house. Although that room is so full of junk up to the door i feel like placing them all in the back under junk. So the only way to get to them or even find them. Is unload half the room which would take alot of work to do.

No, but hopefully made many think twice about the possible repercussions of posting what they have and where they are.

I never say where they are.. undisclosed location in a room lol.. but i dont care about posting what i have.. 80% of my guns are black powder. Not afraid of the big bad gov knowing i have a 180 year old gun lol

Hiding them at the back is good idea.
Leave a bolt action, minus the bolt, up front.
Hide the bolt and gun is worthless. Any intruder will be in and out, not looking for an extended time.

That's perfect! Not too dissimilar to what I was going for with my shop/man cave. Albeit a bit more rustic and my walnut library is in my office. I've never taken pictures with it fully finished.

Before, the previous owner used it for storage and working on his drag truck:

I have most locked away in a closet that I didn't know existed when I bought my house.
It's 8x 16 and has a vaulted ceiling. I figure if I couldn't find it when I was touring my house. Then most people wouldn't in a quick ransack.
I have my in use guns on my wife's late grandfather's gun rack next to the back door.
I'm in a remote area. Have big dogs and an amazing neighbor who is the only other person on our dead end road.

for old firearms, is hanging one really any particular risk to have it stolen? for the most part, they aren't worth that much, have serial numbers on them, and aren't particularly usefull in terms of someone flipping them for cash, or using them for further criminal activity. I do think about taking an old Parker Shotgun that was a family item, out of the safe, and making a mount for it to put over the fireplace. It is not in great condition, and while I do think it would fire, the stock is a bit cracked, and the barrel is dented, so - I don't think I'll ever use it, but it would kill me if it was stolen, so - it sits in the safe.
You could make and unobtrusive cable lock for each side of the mount.
Kind of like handcuffs for it.

My mid 1960’s High School Arsenal on home display in North Georgia. Photo taken with me on leave after graduating from Fort Benning Basic Training and before Jump School. From the top: Savage Stevens Model 22-410 Over-Under, Winchester Model 290 Deluxe 22 Semi Auto, Winchester Model 94 in 30-30, Remington Model 1100 Vent Rib 12 Gauge Autoloader and a Springfield Model 67H 12 Gauge 3” Chamber Slide Action. Not visible behind me, the 67H model stock has a rarely seen factory Recoil Pad, not the usually found hard plastic buttplate. And underneath the long guns is a true 1960’s Saturday Night Special Imported RG-10 in 22 Short only. Amazingly, I still have them all.
