Do you ever "make" someone carrying? Let's experiment.

If its someone I know and they print their piece, I grab right on to it (if its in appropriate setting) and pull it all out sorts so they have to go redress. They hate to see me coming, but it has made people close to me carry a lot more concealed.

Sorry, but if you are serious, that is not smart. Pulling a loaded firearm out of a holster to screw with them, is not a safe practice. It is a good way to create a ND and get someone hurt or killed.

+1 Not too smart on your part...I'd hate to see you coming too. In fact, I'd probably pull out the Taser and watch you flop while I re-holstered...

Yes, for everyone participating, if you see someone carrying please don't grab it. That could have very bad consequences.

I've only been made once but she was a St. Louis County police officer. My shirt rode up after getting out of my car in a Sam's Club parking lot. My wife was pulling down my shirt when she complimented my crossbreed holster and 1911. I turned and saw her in uniform and I felt all the muscles in my body go stiff then I apologized profusely. She laughed and said most criminal she deals with don't bother with $80 holsters so she wasn't concerned!

Too all those saying that it's none of your buisness, look at it as a chance to learn what they are doing wrong so YOU don't get made.

Tell me, why should I care? I usually carry in a belt holster with a shirt or vest covering, if I reach for something on the top shelf, and said shirt is pulled up showing my pistol, Big Deal, so what!

x2. at least in NC, such a thing is NOT against the law, it is not illegal, i am not grabbing for the gun, threatening, etc.

Despite the anti's wishes, just seeing a gun on someone does not equate to a full blown SWAT responding terror alert.

easy...just look for the 5.11 pants. (or vests)

I wear 5.11 pants carrying or not carrying (sometimes jeans too - to mix it up!)... so I would just assume every other CCW holder and LEO are smart enough to know I'm armed. I really don't worry about it since OH is OC legal ... but I don't want one of the sheeple unaware of legal CCW calling in AMWAG...I just find 5.11 pants to be the most durable and comfortable pants I've ever owned - even more so whilst carrying IWB.

I made out one person, just because he was being incredibly obvious about the very large snub-nose revolver that was in his pant's pocket, no holster or anything.

Dude was just sitting down at the local fry-pit and wearing slacks with no pocket holster makes for one hell of a print.

Dress is what clued me in, as usual. This was a well-kempt man in his 40s or 50s wearing (neat) cargo pants and an untucked loose (clean) button-down shirt--not the usual attire for someone in his age range. He had something printing lightly around 4:00 if you were looking for it, but not obviously printing.

That's my standard uniform, carrying or not. That or cargo shorts and Tevas when it gets into the 90s-100s.

As far as spotting anyone, only guy lately (and not within the last 30 days) was an older gentlemen that was wearing a shooting vest and hanging out at the ammo counter. He may have been on his wally walk, he looked nervous.

That's a really good way to get shot! Someone grabbing for your gun is only (except in your case) trying to get that gun for one reason: to shoot the person carrying it. That's why the police will use deadly force when someone grabs for their guns, and I would expect that CC'ers would do the same, too.

EDIT: Mainly refering to a situation where the person doesn't know it's you grabbing for the gun such as coming from behind. It also greatly increases the risk of an ND...doing something like that with a loaded gun is never a good idea.

The guy I took my CWP permit class from had a friend of his try to be funny and put his hand where he carries because he thought it wouldnt hurt anyone. It turned out that he got a broken nose when the guy whipped his elbow back to get him off his gun and put his hand on the ready as he turned around to see it was his friend. The friend learned a good lesson that way.

I see the local pawn shop guy carrying all the time when he is on his smoke break and I'm driving by but he carries OWB with a nice vest that almost covers his gun. I find it kind of hard to conceal for me, or at least I feel like it. I'm pretty skinny at 6 foot, 160 lbs and I always feel the handle of my 1976 S&W J frame sticks out a little under my t-shirt even with the smallest grips I have. Doesnt help that most of my t-shirts are kind of short. But I get along just fine.

No, but I nailed a friend of mine because he didn't tell me he carried into my house. I saw it print when we were taking gun cases out of his trunk. But he failed to tell me. He got embarrassed when I pointed out that he is supposed to disclose that.

I made it up to him by putting his Mini-14 back together (first time I've ever touched one) and telling him that I'll help him sight in his rifle next time we go out to the range.

I see people carrying all the time. A lot of military in the area.

The biggest 'tell' for someone carrying is the oversized belt and constantly, subtly adjusting it. If someone has a big bulge around their waist that they brush against a few times a minute... watch for it and they will imprint. I seem to recall saying that.

The only time I was ever bothered was standing at the sporting goods counter at China-Mart during the recent ammo shortage. When he pulled his wallet out, his shirt hung up on his gun and I had to tell him several times that he was clearly showing. It was like I was speaking Swahili to him.

My kids can spot them fairly well. I think it has to something to do with the fact that a lot of them are at eye level to them. My son just pokes me and then points on the sly. He thinks it's a great game.

Oh, and at the gun show the other day I stopped counting. :neener:

Have I ever "made" someone carrying concealed? Sure.
The only way I'd EVER concern myself with it were if someone's shirt had ridden up over their grip or holster for example and actually exposed their concealed, as that may be a problem in some jurisdictions where CCW is allowed but open carry is not. And it would only extend as far as saying "Hey buddy, you need to pull your shirttail back down."
There's no law anywhere against printing that I'm aware of. If you're in a conceal-only area, keep your shirttail pulled down and who gives a rip if you're printing. If you have your concealed license and your shirttail comes up while in an open carry area, double who gives a rip.
