Just throwing it out there for discussion. The only time I have actually done this are the few times I've stayed at shady motels located in shady areas.

that is a horrilble idea that should stay in the movies... I have a gun within arm's reach but under the pillow is a great way to shoot yourself while you sleep. half the time I sleep with my arm under my pillow, the chances of accidentally pulling the trigger while I sleep are just too high. In a case where I needed it it would be a bad idea as well. If the gun is on or in the night stand then you know exactly where it is even if you are groggy... if, however, you keep it under your pillow (personally I dont sleep in one position all night and often toss and turn and maybe even change pillows) when you need it you are forced to look for it while in a groggy state...

TERRIBLE IDEA..

PT1911, you know they do make strapped holsters to put guns in..........think about it;)

Edit: As PT1911 just said a strapped holster invalidates the reason to do so in the first place....

However you could reduce the risk substantially using a strapless holster while keeping the trigger guard secured and retained.....

very true... but you negate any advantage of having it there in the first place.. the only possible reason one would put a gun under their pillow would be fast access.. that "benefit" is completely negated by losing the gun in the bed as you sleep and by keeping it holstered under your pillow. the best access to a weapon as you sleep would be to have it within arm's reach in/on a bedside table, in a chair at the bedside.. etc.. under your pillow is not faster in any way. There is no benefit and are far too many risks.

It's idiotic to put it under your pillow (no offense to the orig poster, but for anyone who thinks it's a good idea, it's NOT). Under pillow with no holster = accidental discharge, you're dead. Under pillow with holster is just convoluted and weird.

If you're sleeping in a shady area, either don't sleep there (choose a better place), or just wear a holster to bed if you're that flippen scared.

nope. never. dangerous and no need for it. in point of fact, we don't even lock our doors.
(living in the high sierras has its benefits).

but that would require a gun belt over the boxers... now that is a special look...toss an ankle holster in the mix and it is a definite photo op...

come on people...you can buy gunvaults that hold your gun safely for $80. How can you justify the risk

Gun vault on the nightstand. When camping I will put my handgun and flashlight next to me. I agree with most other posters that under the pillow is a bad idea.

Beside the fact it's worth 10 years in jail to do it its sort of a dumb idea. People who do it watch to much tv and actually believe somebody would break in at night. I would put a lot on the bet that not many or even if it has actually happened in real life to anybody.
If you have to do much a simple boo would put the fear into even the biggest bad guy and he would need new laundry after he ran.

LMAO....I never knew this existed until now

Where do you keep your gun at night?
Is it in your nightstand drawer?
Is it under the bed? Is it in a gun safe in your closet?

If you’ve ever woken up in the middle of the night and staggered to the bathroom, you know how incoherent you can be in the wee hours. What would you do if you heard an intruder in your house at night? Try to remember which nightstand drawer it was in? Get down on your hands and knees while blindly feeling under the bed? Stumble to the closet and fumble at the combination for the gun safe?

In circumstances such as these, you need to make every second count. That’s why we invented the Pillow Holster.

The Pillow Holster is NOT meant for concealment and it is NOT meant for retention. It is meant for EASY ACCESS. Read this last sentence one more time.

You’ll know exactly where it is at all times and your hand is always just inches away from it. We guarantee that once you try the Pillow Holster for a week, you’ll never be able to sleep without it again.

Why?

If you’ve ever wanted or needed to sleep with your gun under your pillow, you probably have encountered some of the same problems we’ve had in the past.

1. You can’t sleep with it unholstered because you might knock it out from under your pillow.

2. For those of you who are “wild” sleepers, heaven forbid you reach underneath your pillow and get your finger caught in the trigger guard!

3. Sleeping with your gun in a regular or concealment holster solves the safety issue, but you still face the problem of knocking the gun out from under your pillow.

4. Holsters are usually made of hard plastic or leather that is shaped to conform to your body, not a pillow. Not exactly a comfortable thing to have under your head.

5. And lastly, removing the gun from most holsters can be a pain, especially if it’s not tightly hooked onto a belt and pulled at the right angle.

If you travel frequently, your nightly surroundings change. You could always put your gun in your “current” nightstand, but when that bad guy wakes you up at 3am, are you really going to remember that you put it in the top, middle, or bottom drawer? Or will you snap to your senses and recall that in your current surroundings, you opted to stick it in between the mattresses? Or did you do that last night in the last hotel? By the time you figured it out, it could be too late....

Your surroundings may change frequently, but unless you have some weird job, 99% of the time you’ll be sleeping with a pillow every night. And that’s where we come in.

I think sleeping with an auto with a loaded magazine and an empty chamber would be safe enough. I don't sleep with my gun under my pillow. I can get to it quick enough where it is.
If I felt that I might need to have a gun fast enough to justify having a gun under my pillow, I probably wouldn't be sleeping much, and it would be shotgun time.

I will (and have) sleep with a sheathed knife under my pillow though, not that it's real safe, but it made me feel better before I had a firearm other than my .30-06.
