Merry Christmas Everyone.
Pretty sure it was my .36 1860 Colt Navy replica by Armi San Marco. Bought it from my poor future Brother-in-Law working at an outdoor sports show a coupla counties away from where we lived. I was a teenager and knew even then that he could use the sale, I wanted one, and it wouldn't be a wasted trip my friends and I took out there. What a graceful gun...
Cartridge guns? Probably the Mossberg 500 Field Combo for hunting. I needed my own 12 ga. (with 28" Modified barrel and 24" smooth rifle-sights slug barrel) and to return the bolt-action 20 ga. I'd borrowed from said future Brother-in-Law (Dad wasn't much of an outdoorsman or pro-gun, especially since he served). The 10/22 wasn't far behind.
Need to get a bigger stock for it though.
1948 remington pump 16G handed down from grandfather to my dad to me. took my first deer with it. light, simple, bead front sight, ribbed forend. solid firearm.
I was 12, and it was a 20 gauge.
with. Light enough to carry all day.
I'll admit I sold my first firearm and have regretted ever since. :banghead:
It is now my oldest boy's. He earned the right to have it in the same way that I did.
Very soon, we will find out if his oldest boy will earn it in the same way.
Rifles can be replaced much easier than riflemen can IMO.
single-shot Ted Williams lever from Sears from 1973ish, got that and a brick of shorts for Christmas. My wife still uses it on gopher patrol.
The original finish is pretty pitted, for a short open sighted rifle it's actually a tack driver.
Like so many other responders, my first firearm was a single-shot, .22 rifle (a Winchester Model 67). Apparently, I attach a lot more sentimentality to my guns than some folks do. I received the little Winchester on Christmas day in 1957 when I was fourteen years old. Do I still have it? Well, let me put it this way: Next Christmas, a certain grandson will be the proud owner of a well-cared for Winchester Model 67 rifle...
H&R Topper w/ 20ga and 30/30 barrels - also have my BSA .22 cal pellet rifle I bought from Herter's (actually first gun but not firearm)
