Do you think an M9 Bayonet would fit this?

Hi all,

This:

Is a UK legal Mossberg 590. The reason for the weird flash hider type thing on the end is that the min barrel length for a shotgun in the UK is 24 inches, this means it's had 6 inches of fail stuck on the end.

Do you think a) the bit that goes over the barrell will even fit over the fail and b) the blade will protrude past the fail far enough to actually do anything.

Not that im planning on bayonetting anything or anyone, I'm just curious if it would fit.

The bayonet muzzle ring on the guard doesn't go over the barrel extension on your shotgun.
It goes on the round projection on the magazine cap.

The M9 bayonet muzzle ring measures approx 7/8".
Back of guard ring to back of handle retainer catch is slightly less then 4 7/8".
Guard ring to point of blade is 7".

So whatever your gun measures from magazine cap to muzzle is how much of the 7" blade would be used up before you get to the point

Hmm, I think I might end up with a 1 inch bayonet then :D Thats not ideal. Silly gun laws :/

Oh well, I'm assuming someone makes a tac light holder or similar that attaches to the bayonet lug. Then at least I can use it for something.

If I did my math correctly, you'd have around 3" of bayonet. It might still look cool?
 
Forget that -- there's a plus-2 round extension available for your gun that is a few inches long. That and a longer spring, which are available, are what u want to make your 10+1 590A1 a thing of beauty and a joy forever...

Interesting. Seems that the laws you guys have to follow are completely arbitrary. 24" minimum barrel length why? So you can drop one of them across the Thames in case the Tower Bridge goes down?

I suppose you could use that with the M9 in a similiar fashion to an axe, though I'm sure you need special permits to even own a knife shaped like the M9. I wonder how they phrase it in the law books, trying to ban specific knives without pushing every restaraunt in the nation out of business and every chef to suicide?

Funny you say that -- there IS a move to eliminate all knives with a sharp point. One brand actually has a couple of points and is designed to eliminate deep penetration. "Butter knives rule."

There is ALSO a move to eliminate glasses at pubs for plastic ones which are safer -- I've predicted inflatible ones!

My girlfriend is afraid to carry an expensive little swiss army knife I gave her that even has a little LED flashlight she's so convinced she'll go to prison for it...

PS: isn't that an 8-shot gun and so it is only a 4" muzzle extension which, in some parts of the US might be considered illegal as a flash arrester!
 
And I thought our min. barrel rules were harsh.

As part of the 1988 Firearm Ammendment Act,which was designed to ban riot-guns,like the 870 series,with a skeleton stock,etc,as the government banned centerfire semi-autos,as 'we didn't need them'.But all we do is buy a fixed-stock one,put on a fixed-choke & hey presto its UK legal.

It didn't work,at all really.Strangely coach-guns like the stoegar&Remington models aren't banned&neither is the 1887 lever-action shotgun.:scrutiny:

I know we can get short Side by Sides here, as far as I'm aware the only justification is those Cowboy style 3 gun events that sometimes run. However, I've never seen anyone actually selling them. I'd love a Stoegar coach gun, they look really nice :)
 
Hi there UK shooter.I too am in a search for a short shottie& yes you are correct,as Cowboy Action Shooting,is the only discipline,that these shotguns,can be bought for,as all shorties are classed as Section 1 firearms& it gives the paranoid authorities,power to carefully select,'with good reason' for it.Also those old school shooters buy them,as they lost their pump& semi riot guns,in '89-from what I've been told.

I'll post you a couple of links,to two big gun dealers in the UK,that stock most types of guns,including one coach gun.The other link should take you to the stoegar shottie,in .410.Hope this helps you,in your search.

Actually I can't find the site page,so Id suggest contacting Pete Moore at Gun Mart or Micheal Yardley&perhaps they'd know who the UK distributers are.One of them must have a stock full of them.Or your local RFD might know who stocks them.
 
Thanks, I have sec1 shotgun on my FAC so maybe i will look into getting short barrel on there. The only thing is, im not a member of the club i was previously in that did cowboy action so I probably cant justify it :/
 
I cant really rejoin as I now live 90 miles away :D and no I'm not in council housing, why would you say that?
 
in an ironic twist, isn't the bayonet itself banned in the UK anyway since it's a huge knife?
 
The only knives that are illegal here are flick knives / self opening type knives

We can mostly have any kind of big knife we like, its just that we arent allowed to carry a knife unless its <3 inches and has a non locking blade :cuss:

So in short, I can buy the bayonet, but I cant wander around the street with it. I can wander round my own property with it, or other private land with the permission of the land owner.
