For the regular 5.56 AR family, the ruling red dot sights are mainly Aimpoint and EOTech models, at least currently.

I would like to know about your experience with Docter sights on pistol caliber carbines, both good and bad. For now I am not considering OKO or Kobra etc, just the Docter 3.5 MOA. The intended use will be on a 9mm AR15 or the upcoming 9mm CX-4 Storm.

Thank you.

The Doctor sights have been used on Marlin rifles chambered for 457 magnum with no problem, so they should handle anyhting else...

For the price, I'm surprised you're ruling out the OKO...

The "Doctor Optic" is a VERY small optic, originally designed to fit unobtrusively onto pistol slides in place of the rear sight.

I would (and do) much prefer the extra "glass" that an OKO or similar optic offers.

I used the Tasco version of the Doctor Optic on a rental Glock once... I didn't like it (too small - kept loosing the "dot"). I couldn't imagine using something that small on my flat-top AR.

I tried to find the objective size of the D.O., but didn't see it on their site. But whatever it is, it's certainly not the 33mm that the OKO offers. Plus, you can't turn it off, which (IMHO) is a minus, no matter how long the battery is supposed to last. And you also lose the intensity control...

And all that, for $100 less than the Doctor Optic. ($40 less if you buy the steel protective "roll-cage" cover). PLUS, you have to buy the mount for the D.O., where the OKO is at just the right height (when mounted to a flat-top) to co-witness your irons.

But that's just one guy's opinion...

I've heard good things about the dr optic sights and plan to try them some day. The only thing i trust for defensive purposes is USGI type stuff but some have even used them to replace the ridiculous backupsights on the TA01NSN. I believe they have a cover and a light sensor when your done you put the cover on and the light goes to minimum providing a long life.

I read an article somewhere where some guy was making the case that they where a good thing on his G26 or 27, he just kept the cover off (concealment rigs are under cover anyway) and it was ready to go when he drew. Sounded cool but i'll stick with my trijicons.

Onslaught .... I had looked into the OKO sights at Cavalry Arms, they are not bad at all. I forgot exactly where when I read something about the blue coating of OKO lens, wish I could remember the details.
I definitely will take a close look of the upcoming CX-4 Storm to see how it feels. I would imagine a Docter or OKO would be a good choice, more handy; while an Aimpoint or EOTech maybe a bit "overkill". Just my two cents.

Overkill is just what you want in a defensive weapon:D
