Does Anyone Else Like 3" j-frames?

What're the checkered grips on your Dick Special?

I'm just going through hitting like on all the revolver picks (and @fastbolt's hats).

I'm feeling stupid for selling off the 3" Model 36 I picked up at a WAC show a few years ago (unfired, in the box w/papers and tool! Mint condition!) without even shooting it. Just couldn't figured out what role it played for me, and I hadn't gotten serious about my S&W collection then...
Those are the eBay/Thai handmade rosewood grips everyone recommended a while back. I jumped on the bandwagon and sure am glad I did. They’re nice and cheap

I love the 60 Pro and have been tempted many times to grab one. How do you like it?
It’s ok, but far from my favorite. Looks great, carries great and shoots great…. Unless firing full power 158gr magnums. Fortunately I reload so I can roll up a light magnum load with 125-130 grain bullets that makes it a lot better. It has very good accuracy. The trigger pull was fairly heavy and could have been smoother when new. I installed a Wollf reduced power mainspring and polished the rebound slide, then put a 15# rebound slide spring in it. That only dropped the trigger pull by about 12 ounces, but it is so smooth of a pull, you would think it’s lighter than it is.
Trigger was originally 11.5#, now 10.75. I really should shoot it more because after the work I did on it, it’s a nice shooting gun

I currently have a 3" Charter Arms Undercover, and today, I won a GB auction on a 3" S&W model 31-1 square butt. I picked it up for my wife and I will have the cylinder reamed for 32 mags.

You will be very pleased with the 32 magnum in the model 31-1. I made that modification over six years ago on a 30-1 2” barrel and a 3” barrel 31-1. No problems at all..

Like so many others on the thread I also have two 3” J frames; a rescued Model 36-1 .38 Spl. and a Model 317 AirLite .22 LR.

I like the Pachmayr grips on the square butt 36, its not super concealable but it sure shoots a lot better than it did with the stock wooden grip panels.

Riomouse911 -- I'm not sure, but I think that's the same grips I have on my 638 (albeit I have the round butt version).

Looks ungainly as heck on a snub -- but for me, it might be the most comfortable grips I own of any revolver. :)

I put the round butt version on my 317 and it makes the gun much more shootable for me.

Yes, they are chunky and not well suited for ultimate portability.
That's OK; I use mine as a kit gun and it generally rides in a bag anyway.
Worth the trade off in my view.

I think you’re right about the grips, I believe they’re from the “Gripper” series. (?)

My .357 magnum snubnosed revolvers wear Pachmayr Professional (S&W Model 19 2.5”) and Hogue Compac grips (S&W Model 13 3”) These are both smaller grips without finger grooves.

The 3” Model 36 had the square butt frame, which makes sense with the 3” barrel but makes aftermarket grips a bit harder to find. The factory panels were useless so once I found these the swap was an easy one.

That sounds right about the "Gripper" series... Pachmayr named it well!

You stay safe as well, my friend!
