Does anyone else prefer the 45 acp over the 40 ? for range shooting ?

The 40 has never done "it" for me. Nothing wrong with the round, it just doesn't do anything my other calibers already will.

.40 is a good round, but the recoil is too sharp and jerky for my liking (even from a heavy launcher like Beretta 96). Using a full sized platform (non-lightweight) the .45 ACP has a softer recoil spreaded over extended time slice (comparing to .40). It is just more pleasurable to shoot, especially for long periods of time.

I prefer both .45 ACP and 9mm over the .40

I like the 45 the best, but the 40 isn't bad either. I like the bigger holes the 45's put in the target!

From a reloading standpoint 45 can be reloaded until the headstamp is unreadable or case is lost (usually latter). 40 due to high pressure loading usually is not reloadable very many times. Pregnant guppy syndrome.

I've always felt that the 40 S&W was redundant.

I understand how it came to be and its development but it has always seemed to be redundant and unnecessary. It has not been out that long (as new calibers go) and yet you see a number of police agencies returning to the .45 ACP. Good choice! Good shooting:)

I forget who posted that they like the 9mm but since they are civilian they are limited to 10 rounds.... huh? Do you live in a communist country like California or Gnew Jerzie? I carry 17 round mags all the time, and I'm a civie. Pre-ban, of course.

I love the .45. I carry a Beretta .45 concealed daily. I think I ought to carry the 9 since with merely one extra mag I can carry 35 rounds of highly effective ammo. Oh well. I just like the.45 for the big boom, like, I suspect, most every one else. Yeah, it makes a big hole, but a high speed hollow point 9mm will blow up a pumpkin just as well as a .45.

We just like tradition and big booms. Aint much advantage of a .45 over a 9. You whack somebody COM with either and they are going to tip over. If they don't, whack em in the head. Both rounds will make them lose their balance permenantly.

Sold one .40, second one sits at the bottom of the safe, under guns, third one had barrel swapped-out to .357 Sig.

Still shooting & buying .45s.
