I'm wondering if anyone has chrono'd 230gr 45ACP from some carbine length barrels? The two data points I'm most interested in are at 16" and what length is at 1000fps or so.

yep, search the archives. i've posted chrono data in the handloading section on that

I was getting between 1000 and 1100 out of a Marlin Camp .45 with factory 230gr and handloaded 230gr loads, and around 1250 with 185gr JHP loads. A good average would be 1075fps.

A week or so ago,I compared my 1911 with my USC using WWB here's what I got:

1911-856/838/833/841/833--AVG:840 fps

USC-915/1001/918/944/957--AVG:947 fps

Nothing terribly scientific about it,I just bought a new chrono and wanted to test it using half a box of WWB I had...

Interesting site, thanks!

Looks like 45ACP peaks at 16" but doesn't get a whole lot extra ummph over a 5" barrel in the heavier bullets.

found that page preaty decent, if they would just do a rifle round table as well. :/

Heh. I've seen this comment in plenty of places, and we may eventually move into doing that kind of research. But we spent over $15,000 and weeks of work on what is currently posted . . . and in about six weeks we'll be doing the research on .41, 10mm, and .327 Fed Mag . . . so cut us a little slack, eh? :D
