Im looking for a review/explanation of how the stages are set up by UDPL. Just so I can be the most prepared. Its a bit of a drive to get to the range so I have to plan ahead.
Also to know someone there already would be nice, when I finally get the guts/money to go do it.

TECHNICALLY you'll need to shoot another UDPL event before they'll let you sign up for a 3-gun. But I wager they'd let you if you talked to the match director. All registration is now online at udplevents.net. You'll need to sign up for an account.

watch a few of those and you'll get a pretty good idea of the stage layouts.

some COFs from last year's rifle/carbine match. Have a look at that and maybe look at some COFs for handgun matches (at the site also) and you'll get a good idea.

GENERALLY they only run 2 guns per stage. I don't think I remember using all three guns in one stage.

All guns must be empty when tabled (some clubs/associations allow loaded/safety on; UDPL requires that you empty the gun, then dump it).

Chamber flags for long guns. Handguns unloaded at the end of the stage, then holstered and left there.

I've never seen buckshot. Typically you'll need 75-100 birdshot, and about 5 slugs.

Im shooting my first IDPA on monday up in bountiful, Ill be sure to come down for an IDPA (or some other event) down there too.
 
Cool. Be sure to come out. Great bunch of guys. If you like IDPA they have cool matches with experienced technical-type SOs. Sounds like you're already an IDPA member so you're welcome out for those. If (like me) you don't, the "handgun/icore" and "super shoot" matches are awesome. Mostly shooting steel, fun stages. The 3-guns are great as well. Nothing too hardcore, just fun stuff. :cool:

I try and make all the UDPL 3 gun matches and most of the handgun matches when time allows. The one thing I can attest to from belonging to this club for well over 13 years, is that most everyone will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help you an any way possible. They are friendly almost to a fault. Safety is paramount so like was already posted they have a rule about shooting in a prior match before getting into a 3 gun match.
They must be doing something correct when there is usually a waiting list to get a spot in the match if you wait too long to sign up. (this was done to regulate the enormous turnout we were having at some matches. Also if burning through 70+ rounds of birdshot, a few slugs, 125 pistol rounds and 125-150 rifle rounds is not enough, you can always stay after and shoot until the last person leaves a few hours later.
Oh yea, one more thing, this is a popular L.E. training range with 10 or so separate bays, there is probably more brass lying around for you to pick up than you will be able to carry home.

I'll be at next months 3 gun shoot but will probably miss the handgun match due to work commitments.
