That looks like the classic Mauser style "controlled feed" extractor--cartridge from magazine under extractor to firing chamber.
The push feed mentioned above does allow you to drop a cartridge in the firing chamber and close the bolt easily, but extraction is theoretically weaker. Under stress you could short stroke a push feed and push a cartridge into the chamber without engaging the rim, retract the bolt leaving a round in the chamber, then try to feed a cartridge into an occupied chamber, jamming the gun.
By most accounts, dangerous game hunters prefer the controlled feed over the push feed for reliablity-under-stress reasons.
