I currently have a 20 gauge Mossberg 500 Bantam. It has a 12" LOP which is great for my small stature, and I can swap barrels on it at will (I have a 24" rifled barrel which shoots Accutip slugs < 2 MOA, a 26" smoothbore with choke tubes, and an 18" barrel it wears in my safe with #3 buck in the magazine).

My only issue is the "rattle" that a pump action forend gives. I hate the idea of using it for turkey and for deer I am afraid it makes too much noise also. I also feel like I need a 12 gauge in my safe, in order to be able to participate on invitation hunts and have better access to various specialized hunting loads that are unavailable in 20 ga.

Is there a semi auto that:

    - Has a "Youth" LOP
    - Swap (available on the market) barrels by hand in less than 10 minutes at home
    - Has rifled barrels available
    - Gets good reviews (unlike for instance the CZ 720 reduced length)
    - Less than <$1000 for initial shotgun and 2nd barrel

    Thank you!

Remington 1100. You might have to go used but everything you want has been available.

I can't find 1100 in a short LOP stock in the online used gun market...

If the gun is only going to be used by you,why not buy one you like and shorten the stock yourself. It's not hard to do a good job of this simple modification.

    The 870, 1100, and 1187 Remington's don't rattle.
Barrels can be switched in less then a minute, or you can buy barrels with interchangeable chokes.

Remington make at least a couple of "Youth" models with shorter stocks, or you can just buy a Speedfeed short stock an install it in just a few minutes.

The 870 Express can be bought as a youth gun WITH two barrels and a short stock. The extra barrel is usually a rifled Deer barrel, gun and both barrels for WAY less then $1,000.
You can find the Youth Express with two barrels at most Walmart's and most any gun store, Academy, etc.
I think the standard Youth model is a 20 gauge, so all you need to do is buy the standard two barrel 12 gauge and a Speedfeed short stock.
Price will still be way under $1,000.

Thanks but the 870 isn't a semi auto.

I will look into restocking an 1100 or cutting it down but will be limited by the inner workings of the gun embedded in the stock.

Sorry, missed the part about semi-auto.

You can buy a Youth stock for the 1100 from Speedfeed
You can also cut down an 1100 stock even though there is a recoil spring assembly that's mounted on the receiver that slips back into the stock.

Unless you cut it really short there should be no trouble.

I don't think that you can cut an 1100 stock shorter than 12.5 inches because of the action tube length.

I think the 675 dollar replacement barrels for the SX3 rule it out unfortunately. I don't see any info on swapping barrels for the Franchi.
