Dog attack.

You may want to buy a CS sjambok and cut it down to size.

This would be cheaper, have a wrist strap and not stink when wet.

If your mom ever has to use one, she shouldn't make one strike and then stop to evaluate, she should keep swinging until the threat is down or running away. Go for face, eyes and hands.

If he could reach in the truck while the dog was 10 feet away, why not climb inside to avoid the attack?

What was his plan if the dog didn't break off? The sjambok depends on pain compliance, it hurts to be struck with it, but doesn't really do much damage.

Why the second blow if the dog was already backpeddling?

Because with canines, it's a dominance exercise. You're not communicating on a verbal or emotional plane.
So, if he stays there blinking, you give him another whack until he turns tail and runs letting you know that he knows you're the bigger dog.

The point that I was making was that my friend repelled a dog attach with a sjambok.

Yes it is a Cold Steel Sjambok. I carry one when the wife and I walk at night, along with my XD45.

The CS Sjambok is a polymer and is very strong.

Friend showed the cop the sjambok, and the cop asked what was? Friend shrugged his shoulders and said a sjambok. :D

This is hilarious. Whipping dogs into submission with a hippo's willy.

Reminder

Please see post #16.

I'm beginning to think we've gotten all the value we're likely to see from this thread.

Any more adolescent sniggering and I'm pulling the plug.

Don't make me turn this car around.

A little sjambok trivia:

(As I recall from the Dutch Maritime Museum in Amsterdam) the Dutch got the sjambok off of the Indonesians as a wooden rod, like a heavy duty switch. They brought it with them to their South African colonies. At sometime it morphed into the hide version (and now to HDPE).

At the Maritime Museum there's actually a wall mural of a blonde Dutchman whipping an Indonesian dude with a sjambok. I assume the painting is not intended to celebrate the practice...

Sjamboks might have occasionally been made from penises but if you kill a hippo you can make lots and lots of sjamboks from the hide and only one from the penis - if you've killed a male hippo.

We took some photos of me doing some sjamboking and the "whip" action is very impressive. No, the target wasn't a dog although it was a dog bed.

Finally, the sjambok plays a role in Thomas Pynchon's book "V". In fact, I first heard of this whip in "V". I'd go into more detail on how the sjambok is used in the book but it wouldn't be very high road.
