Today was the first time I'd ever tried double trap and it was a lot of fun. Wasn't too difficult, missed six targets out of 50.

I realized that there a bunch of clay games out there that I haven't tried.

So what are some of the other games, besides the skeet, singles trap and sporting clays, that you enjoy?

The only ones that I DON'T love are ones I haven't tried yet. :D

I've migrated from exclusively shooting singles trap to most often shooting sporting clays. When I transition to my bird gun before hunting season I shoot at lot of five stand. It's the best reactive training for hunting that I've found.

The most interesting clay games that I've shot were in the UK. At West Wycombe they have an imitation grouse butt where the birds come at random from all different directions. Another fun game is a walk-up shoot where you walk down a path and the birds come out at random. Rabbits, teal, high crossers, whatever. It helps to use electronic ear protectors so you can hear the trap release.

Still on the list to try are ZZ birds (helice), FITASC and bunker trap. But I'm working on it.

Dang, that is a darn good score for a first outing on doubles!!

I much prefer doubles to single trap, I find single trap quite boring.

bamf, 44/50 is darn good for a first try at double trap. Congrats...

I'm with Paul on this one,as usual. If there's a clay game out there I wouldn't like, I haven't found it.

I've tried trap, a little skeet, 5 stand and Sporting Clays, handthrown clays, turkey shoots, slug shoots, practical matches, and even rolling old tires down a hill with a cardboard center for slug practice.

For other oddities, I've had fun with Chinese trap with the Geezer League. Or tin can races, trying to kick an old can across a finish line before someone else does their's.

What I'd like to try next is wobble trap and FITASC....

Dave:

What's Chinese trap?

At our club we sometimes play a game called Skrap on combined skeet and trap fields. You shoot trap targets from from the skeet positions. Lots of hard angles and long shots. Is this the same game?

Paul

hey thanks guys, kinda funny had a horrible day at the skeet range but was a clay busting machine on the trap range.

Paul,
What is ZZ birds? Is bunker trap the same as international trap?

Dave,
There is a place near me that offers wobble trap. Do you know what the difference is between regular trap?

Now I'm real curious about FITASC, anyone know of a place out here in California?

bamf:

Yes, bunker trap is another name for International Trap. ZZ birds or helice is a game that was designed to replace live pigeon shooting. The best way to describe it is a plastic target with wings.

Here's a brief description and picture.

For more detail on the game try here:

Those I know who've tried it say it's the toughest target game around.

Paul, as the Geezers do it, Skrap's very similar to Chinese Trap. Two shots per bird are allowed and the stations are 1,2,7,8, and the last 5 rounds from the 27 yard trap line.Since the bird is not voice activated, there's hooting and hollering going on.

The fun part is that it's just different enough that trap timing and leads don't work, so each shot is fresh.

Wobble trap as I understand it, has an oscillating base on the trap which gives a near infinite range of angles and heights.

Bamf, trap is mostly shot with a swing through style and skeet sustained lead. Try switching styles next time and see if things improve.

Dave,
My head wasn't in the game when I shooting skeet...it was my first round in two months since I've been doing a lot of sporting clays. And it was a windy day at the range, so the clays were flying funky...at least that my excuse ;)

Those games sound like a lot fun, I can definitely try chinese trap, wobble trap and bunker trap. FITASC and helice looks like it'll have to wait till I can find some place to shoot.
