dpms or white oak upper for dcm/cmp

for a recreational shooter is the white oak upper worth the extra $200?
really just lookin for an accurate A2 style upper that I can maybe try NRA highpower.

I was told the "hot ticket" for newbies for NRA Service Rifle was a Rock River lower with their match trigger mated with a White Oak Armament upper. WOA will also do a trigger job on your RRA trigger.

If you are going to be at all serious about trying Highpower, more then just a single match or two that is, you really do need to invest in a good quality set up.

I was told the RRA/WOA combo would be good enough until you wore out the barrel and needed to replace it anywhy, and at that time to upgrade.

The white oak upper is very interesting looking. As far as I know everything they make is extremely accurate. Plus it has a free float tube that looks like a normal handguard!! It's got their modified rear sight that has more repeatable adjustments too.

I already have a colt preban lower with a JP trigger and the stock springs thats crisp and just over the required 4.5#.I just want to know is a dpms upper good enough to get my feet wet in NRA highpower.Also the dpms has the floating dcm legal handguard.

To get your feet wet? Sure.

There's another way to get your feet wet inexpensively, too. I tried highpower SR matches with M1s owned by other HP shooters. There's nothing wrong with doing that to see if you like HP shooting.

I bought a CMP M1 next, and I have taken it to matches.

I went with a WOA upper on my AR. I know that the rifle is more accurate than I will be for quite some time.

taliv, perhaps Trebor is referring to the full-custom uppers that John Holliger offers with a choice of barrels. I think that his WOA "production" upper (the kind that I have) is the best deal around.

I'm one of those newbies who got the hot ticket (although I didn't know it at the time...guess I'm just lucky).

I have a Rock River lower, a RRA 2-stage match trigger and a WOA DCM upper. First time I was out with handloads (77 gr SMK and Varget powder) I was shooting 1/2 to 3/4 MOA off a bench. I'm not concerned with the rifle's performance. That allows me to work on my position shooting technique.

Exactly. I was told that if you do well the standard WOA upper can take you to the border of Master class. By about that time you'll be ready for that slight improvement an even better barrel will give you to your scores and you'll original barrel should be near shot out by then as well.

That's when you'd go for the full up custom build.

thats a great idea and I already have a garand to shoot while I save up for a WOA upper
