(edit: and man, do i ever miss the good old days of college, with no job and no responsibilities, sitting around a computer lab and playing JediMUD for hours on end)

It reminds me of my chemical days. I didn't understand much of what was going on and saw alot ofdoubles and multiples

He's referencing a series of text-based games popular back when Al Gore just got finished with the internet.

Think everquest, but with colored text and no monthly payments. I'm glad I got it out of my system before they invented 3d graphics cards.

Like Coronach said, Al Gore invented the internet and this was the first game people played. They had muds for Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons, Wheel of Time and many other scenarios.

well, not quite the first game. didn't we recently discuss _hunt the wumpus_ and its ilk?

Beerslurpy, that was brilliant!! I may log on to Discworld Mud and play my old character for a while. I wonder if Dragonskin armour is anything like the Grflx Scale I wore while throwing fireballs at stray dogs online in days gone by. :D

oh right the generals can wear it but screw the troups who actualy need it. if i was still in i'd get court martled but hey my thiought is go ahead lets get jag involved and see who comes out on top are they going to throw me in jail or out for protecting myself better than thire issued equipment. it would end up looking verry bad for them and besids if i was kicked out after it all at least i would be safe at home with my family so i can provide for them.
what realy tickes me off is generals are wearing it but the fromt line trooups cant fine deny the general his benifits and see how fast the rules change on this one

too true. I nearly pissed myself, and all my co-workers are wondering *** I'm looking at. Reminded me of Operation Overlord at 1200bps.

Ahh, the classics.

What thread was that in? I haven't fired up my CP/M box (1976 Exidy Sorceror) since the Boston Computer Museum sent it back from indefinite-loan many years ago. Sounds like a great excuse to revisit it and all those old early 70's "Compute" volumes I have stashed away.

You haven't lived until you've picked up a wandering stream and placed it into your knapsack, or said "PLOUGH" really loud in a cave.

I dont know about snake skin, but dragon skin armor is like +5 to AC. Maybe the snake skin gives +save vs poison. Behold my nostalgic reenactment of the iraqi insurgency.

Bwahahahahahahahaha!

The argument has changed from "soldiers dying from lack of cutting-edge Interceptor vests" to "troops dying due to wearing crappy old Interceptor vests instead of something better"

I've been seeing this debate a lot on various forums (a lot on fark) and there are tons of people who have never worn armor calling the interceptor a POS, foisted off on the poor ignorant troops.

The goal posts have been moved.

Sounds like more marketing crap from SFTT to me... this is the same site that reprinted Militec's press release verbatim as well as bashing the ACOG for "dead batteries".

Having said that, the Pinnacle Dragon Skin stuff does look pretty promising. It is basically a scale mail of titanium and ceramic composites. Since it is less rigid, it allows for more coverage and mobility. They make it in a full coverage form; but you can only use their carrier. You can buy it in 10x12" plates though and use it with any other plate carrier on the market (including the Interceptor).

However at $8k a pop, you are talking about trading several Interceptors and SAPI plates to get one DragonSkin.

It is basically a scale mail of titanium and ceramic composites.

As done by the soviets circa 1982 I beleive. Theirs didnt incorporate ceramics and it wasnt a laminate, but they basically made a kevlar linked titanium scale mail that was 1/4" thick in the front and a few mm in the back and sides. The kevlar also had mounting points for pouches and the usual.

I've been trying to get one to complete my authentic soviet warrior outfit, but they are hard to come by.

I only mention it because it was the only time before Dragon Scale that I heard of a vest incorporating more than <bullet resistant fabric> vest + <hard material> insert. The vest material and hard insert varied in composition, but most armor is constructed in a similar manner.

Someone slap beerslurpy for reminding me of all the hours I spent on MUD's and (worse!) MUSH's.

you played MUSH's? oh, now i've lost all respect for you. (well, not quite ALL respect... at least you didn't confess to playing MOOs)

go stillers!

Rank hath its privileges.

Do Air Force fighter aircrew still get to fly with personally owned handguns (as they did in RVN)?
