Fella's;

Do you now own your "dream gun", the one you wanted forever? If so, please give us the details. Details such as: Was it bought, or custom created? If custom, what was the process, who did the work? Current production or a very hard to find piece? Collectable or just an oddball that you love?

If you don't have it - yet - what are you doing to get it? What is it? And why that?

Just thought it'd make an interesting point of discussion.

I wanted a Colt Python for over 30 years but they always seemed out of reach finacially. About 10 years ago I realised I wasn't getting any younger. Found a 6" blued Snake that looked like it was brand new. Plunked down $700.00 and I've never regretted it. I'm doing my best to wear it out before I die. Serious :D factor.

I thought I did...

Then I saw a minty fresh Dreyse Rheinmetall semi-automatic carbine, in 32acp, from the 1920's.

I was smitten.

I turned it up, because I didn't have the kind of cash the seller was asking ... turns out, after research, that the seller was only asking 1/2 of what the only other example I could find online is priced at. :(

For over thirty years I wanted a flintlock rifle in an early American style, circa 1790. As a retirement gift my wife told me to order what I wanted. A few days of research and I was on the phone to Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading. It took about nine months but I ended up with their Late Lancaster model: 42" swamped barrel, 50 caliber, 16" LOP, double set triggers, top of the line maple stock and the best lock. It fits me perfectly. This is a once in a lifetime purchase. It gets a lot of use and careful maintenance and is a joy to shoot. I'm sure there are better made, more expensive and more historically accurate flintlocks out there, but this one suits me fine.

I have had several "dream guns" which I bought and currently own 0 of them. I am 29 years old and have been shooting for the last 25 years. Over time I have become smitten with several guns for various reasons. I have wanted among others a SAA (bought a replica) which bored me when there wasn't much cowboy shooting around. I wanted a .357 winchester rifle, bought a very very fine example and it was so nice I was afraid to mess it up. Doubled my money on it and never missed it. I wanted a super Blackhawk with scope in 44 mag. Bought the gun and hated it enough I never scoped it. There was an arsenal slr107 that I was dying for and I found one used. Wasn't as much fun as I had hoped. The list goes on through double barrels in 20 and 12 ga, autoloader shotguns, smith 29, colt 38spl police positive, 308 bench rest rifle, and 3 ar15s. Luckily for me I buy almost exclusively used so in my buys sells and trades I have not lost any money. I have forced myself away from dream guns now because they never live up to the hype I put into them through dreaming. I simply figure out a few that fit what I want and buy one when it becomes available. The ones I own now that I am beyond smitten with are a contender pistol, a rem11 from 1928, and my buntline .357. My taurus m44 is moving up towards being in that group the better I get with my handloads.

The only other things I can say would be a dream gun are
1927a1
Drilling
Remington m8
A good winchester 97
A good marlin trap gun
Artillery luger
revolving rifle
Colt lightning rifle
And last but not least a ppsh41

Too bad these are all well out of my price range and nowhere near being on the horizon. I hope one day they are mine, but for now I enjoy reading about these old iron workhorses.

I'm simple, I want either/both a Steyr AUG with the built in scope, or a IWI Tavor. I'm not a big tactical guy, but I have been smitten with the bullpup design since I was very young, and everytime I hold one it only gets worse! :D

Always wanted a Browning Auto 5. Never could afford one. Found a 1960's era specimen in dang near mint condition last year. Bought it at a very good price and it now resides in my safe. Cant wait to take it hunting.

One or both of the .45 cal Lugers that were made as samples for the US Govt.

I hear there are only 2 of them and the Govt. has both of em. Worth atleast a cool million each.

be safe

One is lost, and the other is in a private collection out here in So. Cal. at the Michael Zomber Co.

Not for sale, estimated value $2million. cool

be safe.

mine is a rather simple but expensive list...

m1894 .30-30 with the long octagon barrel
a drilling maybe ill settle for a sxs rifle(preferably an H&H)
a luger
a styer AUG (i saw die hard when i was a kid and wanted one ever since)
an 1895 winchester in .405win
a 1903 springfield
and a BAR

My dream gun would have to be a perfect condition, numbers matching Tula Russian SKS-45 self-loading carbine. All the minty Russian ones I've seen for sale are out of my price range.

Actually I have a fairly large collection of them. Started with a well worn Stevens 26 Crackshot that was given to me by a family friend when I was about 12. Still adding to a collection of Stevens single shots along with several other areas of interest. Hard to say which is my favorite. Possibly the Stevens Walnut Hill in .22 Hornet.

PRE-64 Winchester Model 70 (mine is in .30-06)
.22 Hornet (mine is a Kimber M82)
Colt Woodsman (mine was made in 1938)
Colt Shooting Master (mine is actually a New Service with target sights)
M1903A3 (I have two, a Smith-Corona and a Remington)
Top quality .22 rifle (mine is a Kimber M82)
Colt Single Action Army (mine is a Second Generation in .357)

The C-96 Broomhandle marked in German: "Hold me in Honor! Kaiser Wilhelm...."
FG-42
Thompson SMG (1928 version)

I got really involved in bowling pin shooting some years back and decided I needed a long slide 1911 for the task. Looked around the used market for a year and didn't see one so I finally bought a new Springer Loaded Longslide Target. Grat shooting gun and does a nice job on the bowling pins.

No it's not rare but it's kind of special to me...

Lucky for me I can't afford the 2 that I want, first is a mini gun and second is a 20mm bolt action repeater. The first I would have to hit the lotto, the second I think I would have to sell all my firearms and knives to get close.

I love the .50 but I own 2, the most fun for me now a days is to let other people shoot it. The looks on their faces is always priceless!

Finally got my dream gun, a Colt Delta Elite. It was used and was horrible. Spent $200 on smithing and it ran just ok, but still not 100%. Sold it for what I paid and never looked back. I guess my only dream guns now are NFA items.

Снайперская Винтовка системы Драгунова образца 1963 года Snayperskaya Vintovka sistem'y Dragunova obraz'tsa 1963 goda (SVD-63)
