Dumb question about CCW in PRK....

OK.

Since I live in California I have always assumed that there is no possible way of me EVER being able to obtain a carry permit.

But I see people in this forum who, according to their profile, live in California and who talk about how they carry, what they carry, etc.

Aside frombeing LEO's how does one go about getting a permit is this state. From everyone I speak with it's basically not going to happen. Everyone I know has done the process and been denied.

We are always armed on the ranch and I have a SP-101 that I carry in the truck and on any road trip.

However, I'm also sweating trouble with the law everytime I pass over my proprty line. I've never been introuble with the police (I haven't even had a ticket in 18 years!) and could not be more of an upstanding guy. But I DO live in California and feel I have an obligation to protect my family so I risk a fine a confiscation.

What gives? How does one obtain a carry permit here???

I know how you feel dude, i too live in cali for the moment and i also risk carying in my car despite the law(i figure it's worth the risk). i am in the process of getting a florida ccw though, it should help me when i transfer to a more reasonable state.

I'm not in California, but why not apply. The worst that can happen is you get denied and are out money, the best is you get approved. I believe Jim March has a site about how to get a California CCW. Just search on google for California CCW. Don't go to a site from lawyers looking to get money to help get CCW. If I can find the site I am thinking of I will add to this post.

It depends on your county. Some counties have a higher rate of CCW than others. I understand Orange county is good about it, as is Mendecino(sp?). Contra Costa(where I live) is a joke. Our state may issue law leaves a lot of room open for abuse, and that abuse has happened here.
I understand how you feel. Sometimes I feel as though I must carry. I frequently opt out of things I would like to do, and events I would like to attend, simply because I cannot carry without risking permanent loss of my 2nd amendment rights. Because of the political leanings of my sheriff, I am forced to rely on a condiment and knives for protection of my pregnant wife and unborn child. As for my wife, being nine months pregnant, she has no legal option to defend herself. She can't carry a gun, and the one time she was inadvertantly exposed to pepper spray, her asthma flared so badly she had trouble the rest of the week. I have no doubts that her use of it would affect her more than the BG.
I am currently facing a huge dilemma(sp?). Once the baby is here, do I carry on with less than adequate means of defense, or do I risk it all by carrying without a permit? After all, one cannot effectively use a knife if burdened by a baby.
Check the L/P area for Jim March's idea on CCW for everybody. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it comes through.

Howdy neighbor. Not going to get CCW in L.A. County, VERY difficult in Riverside and San Bernardino, as well.

For the average citizen, Los Angeles county is next to impossible. Riverside is difficult from what everyone says. SB on the other hand is one of the more lenient counties. I meet quite a few SB county residents (especially since I frequent the Inland Fish and Game shooting range which is in Redlands/Upland) who carry. Most of the people I meet who carry do a lot of work out of the office setting ie working with clients in the client's location and thus carry cash or valuable equipment to and from job sites.

LA is screwed up.

If you have relatives in another county where they're at least somewhat sane, it may be possible to set up a "second residency". "Residency" isn't defined in the CCW penal codes (PC12050-54) but in the tax codes it's clear that you can have more than one "residence".

I've been very curious about the residency issue as well. Also have a a vacation home in Kern county. wondering how many days per week / month residency might be required to qualify for CCW there.
