Dumb question

Finally found a few primers, had to drive 60 miles to get 2000 Remington 9 1/2 large rifle primers - all they would let me have. I have been using CCI-200 exclusively, any differances in the two?
Sportsmans Warehouse in Marana was terrible, empty shelves in ammo and reloading, as bad as I have ever seen it, not a single round of 9mm in the place other than what I was carrying, primers almost nonexistant, powder and bullets had about 30-40% in stock. Restrictions in place on powder and primers, 2 per customer.
The checkout girl said that was better than it had been, but sometimes only the stores in bigger markets have been getting what's available of the really hard to find stuff...like primers...

I have found very little difference between the two. However the CCI primers seem to be harder than the Remingtons, meaning it may take a harder firing pin strike to ignite CCI primers.

Shame on you. You've been around long enough to know, there's no such thing as a "dumb question".

They still had about 4 1000 count boxes of the Remingtons, and 4 100 count boxes of Wichester large rifle primers when I left, if anyone is close. the price was higher, $30.99 for the Rems, $3. something for the Winchesters, definately supply and demand pricing making itself known!
I know, rf, but it's a title guarenteed to get a look around here!

I agree, you will see little if any difference between the CCI and Remington LR primers. If you're loads are bumping up against the Max pressures you might want to back the charge off just a little to be sure. (as always)

Don't worry, most "name brand" primers are of equally good quality and will do a fine job. I have used CCI, Federal, Winchester and Remington LR primers and all worked just fine. (add Magtech, PMC and Wolf in pistol primers too)

I had to get the Remington primers the other day as well. It's all they had in stock at our local supplier. But so long as they go bang, I don't care. If they are a little different I can always adjust the load for them.

The local gunshop in brewer ME had at least 3 cartons of all types of each type of primers in both CCI and Win. The price is $49.99 per 1K but if I need them in a pinch they are there with no restrictions on purchase.

That's a high price, ouch. But, if that's all there is AND no factory ammo to be had, oh well.
My rifle loads aren't maxed out, no worries there, thanks for the replies!

I have yet to pay more than $29.95 for any box of 1,000 primers. I hope the prices drop back to ~$20/K by the time I need to buy again.
