Dunhams Ammo question

I went into my local Dunhams to get some .45 ammo recently.
After waiting at least 15 minutes for someone to come to the counter, this is usual here, the associate grabbed the box i requested. (Plus side - they are pretty good about knowing what is what.)

Anyway, he asked me to follow him to the front counter (still carrying the ammo), and told the cashier to ring me up. They produced a form and told me they had to fill it out. It looked like the form for transfering firearms. I waited about 20 minutes for the cashier to figure it out. I would have stood and argued, but daylight was dwindling and I needed to go relieve stress from finals. If Dunhams keeps doing this, I will not be a customer.


Has anyone else had fill out these forms for ammo?

My local Dunham's store fills out a small form for ammo purchases, too.

Name, DL info, etc. According to Duh-nams, the FBI has [ahem] 'requested' that they do that. Last fall, my local Dunhmas got "smashed-and-grabbed" twice. First time, the BG's got the long guns in the display. Sceond time, only the airsofts & BB/Pellet guns were in the display, so those got grabbed.

Now how in the cornbread he77 taking down ammo purchase info is going to help trace the stolen firearms is waaaay beyond my comprehension. Unless the crooks come back to the store and say something like:

"hey, dood, I need bullets for this Mauser thingy I stole from ya a couple of nights ago...

i think its too much of a hassle

im just going to stick with the local gun shop or even Walmart if i need to

The form is simply to say that they checked ID at the back counter, there is no need to do it again at the . A waste IMHO, and my local Dunhams (either of them) hardly ever do it.

I like Dunhams ammo for the simple reason that they carry a good selection of surplus stuff. I don't buy anything else there.

I buy ammo at Dunhams all the time. Never been asked to fill out a form.

Never had to have ammo carried up to the check-out either. They set it on the gun counter and go back to hiding in the store room.

With a AAA card they give 10% off regurlally priced items. If the kid working the register doesen't know that it doesn't apply to guns/ammo you might get 10% knocked off the price.

While buying ,30-30 ammo there the woman at the check-out said " I think these are on sale".
She opened the sale paper and Remington 30-06 was on sale for $7.99/box. She then rang 'em up for the sale price.

Far be it from me to point out the difference between 30-30 and 30-06, knowing that women are always right.

The Dunham's on my way home must be one of the exceptions then......

No stupid forms, 2-4 very knowedgeable individuals behind the counter at any one time, all of them hunt and I know one who belongs to my club

Good selection of ammo and accessories, priced competively with the local WallyWorld and is conveniently located in the parking lot of said WW.

Maybe it's because we're in the middle of the mitten away from some of the PC SouthEast.

Thats one reason why I bought ammo from them was the decent prices. I got a few boxes of 7.62 for my sks for $2.19 a box, because they were marked wrong.



If the prices are easy on the wallet, I'll give them another shot.(no pun intended)

Only if you can throw pretty far, it's a big parking lot. WallyWorld and Sam's anchor the lot, with the Dunhams, a Lowes, KFC, Krispy Kream, A & W, Rite Aid Pharmacy, AND the MSP Post in out lots.

Even more reason to start reloading your own.

The Lee Aniversary Set is still about $65-70 and will get you started. A Dillion will produce more ammo in 2 hours then you can shoot in a week. Come join the reloaders.

You'll shoot more for less and I'll bet you'll enjoy the sense of accomplishment when you put together a load that meets or exceeds the performance of your favorite carry ammo and it costs less than WWB.
